Hey everyone,
We built LostCat24 after our own cat went missing for two weeks. The helplessness of not knowing where she was really stuck with us.
We wanted something better than paper flyers and hoping someone would catch her. So we created an AI that can identify individual cats from just one photo — no catching, no microchip, no stress.
When a cat goes missing, one tap sends instant alerts to every user within 25 km. The community can then report sightings on a live map and owners get notified immediately.
It’s completely free and already helped reunite over 1,000 cats.
We’d love your honest feedback — what do you think? Any features you’re missing?
Thanks for checking it out!

How well does the AI handle multiple cats that look very similar in the same neighborhood, especially when they're all outdoors at once?

@miranpma Thank you for this question — it’s one that’s really close to our hearts.
When we were first building the AI, we tested it extensively with our own two sibling cats who look almost identical, even to us. We took hundreds of photos of them together outdoors, from every angle and in every posture you can imagine. Every single time, the AI correctly identified exactly the right cat. It was honestly such a relief to see it work so reliably for our own little ones.
The system doesn’t just look at the overall appearance. It creates a true digital fingerprint by analyzing over 100 tiny unique details — whisker positions, coat patterns, little scars, eye details and more. That’s how we reach 98 % accuracy in identifying individual cats, not just guessing the breed. So even when several very similar cats are outside at the same time in the same neighborhood, it still knows who’s who.
We really care about getting this right for cats and their humans.

Love this concept, especially the photo matching part. One thing that would really help though is a built-in chat or direct messaging feature between the person who spots a cat and the owner, since right now it seems like you'd have to exchange contact info some other way and that feels like it could slow things down in a time-sensitive situation.

What about data protection? Especially regarding location tracking?

@isotech_muenchen Thank you for asking — data protection is something we take extremely seriously and built into the core of the app.
LostCat24 is fully GDPR compliant and follows strict German data protection standards. We only store your last known location when you actively use the app. There is no continuous background tracking.
We never share any data with third parties. Phone numbers are only visible if users voluntarily choose to share them. Even then, we automatically anonymize sensitive address details for safety reasons — for example, house numbers are removed from any publicly visible information.
All data transferred to our AI is protected with 256-bit encryption.
Importantly: Photos and data of cats are only published when the owner actively marks the cat as missing. If you register your cat preventively, only you as the owner have access to the photos and information. Nothing becomes public until you decide to report the cat as lost.
Your privacy and the safety of you and your cat are our highest priority. If you have any other questions about how we handle data, I’m happy to answer them in detail.

Snapped a pic of my neighbor's missing tabby and within an hour two people nearby pinged with possible sightings on the live map, super impressed by how fast the alerts went out.

@tulay_asl47802 Thank you so much for sharing this! 🙌 That’s exactly why we built LostCat24 – one photo of a found cat triggers the AI fingerprint + instant 25 km alerts to the whole neighborhood. The live map turning into real sightings within the hour is what we hoped for. Super happy it worked for your neighbor’s tabby. Was she safely reunited? Would love to hear the full story!
