Hey Product Hunt 👋 I built Chalkboard because making a decent explainer video is slow and expensive, and every “AI video” tool is a closed SaaS with per-video pricing. Chalkboard is the opposite: open source, MIT-licensed, and it can run entirely on your own machine for $0 per video using Ollama for the script and Piper for the voice. You give it a prompt, and it writes a SceneScript, draws hand-sketched diagrams with RoughJS + Graphviz auto-layout, generates real imagery where it helps, narrates per scene, burns in subtitles, adds mood-matched music, and muxes everything into an MP4. Although I recommend using open ai's apis because they are really good. There’s also a vision “self-correct” pass that screenshots each scene and fixes overflow or contrast issues before the final render. Three formats work out of the box: 16:9 explainer, vertical reels, and a research-backed cinematic documentary mode, plus multilingual dubbing where you build once and render one MP4 per language.
