Did you know there's probably a Wikipedia for your native language?
As soon as I knew, I built a word game for more than 300 languages, each drawing on its own Wikipedia as the source.
But here's the thing nobody tells you: building a simple word game for most of these languages meant building things that didn't exist. A word list, word frequencies, common idioms ...
Let me be clear, those are not obscure languages nor footnotes in history. Those are languages spoken daily by millions of people, and yet they're nowhere to be found in most language dropdowns. You can see the entire list at https://wikilangs.org/languages
So I built datasets, infrastructure, models .. Which is great, but that's only accessible to developers. Does it have to be? Can I build something almost anyone on Earth could enjoy and connect with? Regardless of any language barriers?
And thus Wikilangs Games was born, my attempt at bridging the intangible in an experience people can connect with effortlessly, without mental gymnastics or translation hoops.
The rules are simple:
- Guess the word in 6 attempts
- Yellow means a correct letter in the wrong place
- Green means a correct letter in the right place
To make the game more accessible, I restrict the keyboard options to words that exist in the vocabulary. There are difficulty levels though, so plenty of room to challenge yourself.
