Really excited to introduce AI Transport.
When we saw teams shipping assistants, copilots, and agentic workflows, we expected the hard part to be models and orchestration. But after speaking with a lot of developers (customers and friends externally) we realised that delivering a great UX is surprisingly complicated.
Token streaming over HTTP gets you started, but real world products run into the same problems quickly: refreshes break streams, mobile networks drop output, device switching resets sessions, and users can’t reliably interrupt or steer what’s happening. Teams end up rebuilding transport plumbing instead of working on what makes their product unique.
So we built Ably AI Transport to be a drop-in transport layer that sits between your agents and end-user devices. It’s designed specifically for stateful, steerable, multi-device AI experiences and focuses on the “last mile” mechanics:
resumable, ordered streaming (recover cleanly after reconnect/refresh)
session continuity across devices
live steering / bidirectional control (interrupt, redirect, approve)
presence-aware sessions (adapt work when users aren’t around)
shared session state patterns for multi-agent coordination
observability + governance hooks
It’s built to work alongside whatever model or agent framework you already use.
