Hi Product Hunt,
I’m really excited to share something I’ve been working on since late November last year.
I’ve always struggled to wake up in the morning. I’d often feel groggy when my alarm first went off, turn it off, and drift back to sleep. Then I tried something different. I recorded myself saying a message about why I should get up, edited it in GarageBand, and turned it into a ringtone for my Apple Clock alarm. It worked. Hearing my own voice remind me of what I needed to accomplish made it much easier to wake up.
But there was a problem. Updating the alarm every day was tedious. I had to record a new voice memo, edit it in GarageBand, export it, and set it as my ringtone. And after a while, I got tired of my own voice. It’s kind of weird hearing yourself first thing in the morning 😂. Around that time, I also started playing around with ElevenLabs voice technology and realized this app would be perfect to put their incredibly realistic voices to use. So I decided to build an app to make this process effortless.
The app is called Wake AI and it is available on iOS and iPadOS. It lets you create talking voice alarms with custom messages. You can choose from a wide range of natural AI voices, making it feel like someone is actually talking to you in the morning. I find it extremely useful because I can change the voice every night based on my mood. Some days I like a Western cowboy to wake me up. Some days, if I feel unmotivated, I choose a sports coach voice. Other days, a girlfriend-like voice helps me start my day.
This project has been a great learning experience so far. I’m new to building mobile apps, and one thing I’ve learned is that great UI doesn’t mean having the most stunning colors or graphics. One of the recent updates I’ve been focusing on is improving the layout of the app so that it is intuitive, easily accessible, and works well for users needing VoiceOver support.
Wake AI is live on the App Store and you can check it out at https://apps.apple.com/us/app/wake-ai-talking-voice-alarm/id6754811988.
