Lumberjack: micro vlogs

I wanted to know what my friends were actually up to—not just what they eat or where they travel. Most live far away, we don't post much on social media, and as guys, we rarely text—and when we do, there's rarely time for deep stuff. I wanted a lowkey way to stay connected, centered on who we are striving to become. Ultimately, I wanted to make the striving less lonely and genuinely supportive.

I built it and shared it with people around me. ~20 friends gave it a shot. The early version had some idea of "life journaling" but it was pretty vague. People posted a few uploads, but mostly stuff that could've gone on Instagram anyway. Most stopped after those initial posts, and honestly, I was ready to call it a rewarding one-off event—just grateful to have tried it and caught up with friends.

But a handful kept going. For months. They are obviously doing me a favor, but I believe their values aligned with mine—wanting a space to document what they're passionate about, without the pressure to make it look impressive.

So I kept building. Modernized UI, added AI reaction and weekly summaries, sharpened what it's actually for. Now I feel ready (and worried) to reveal the app to a larger audience. I don't know if this resonates beyond my tiny circle—it's niche. I'll probably shift focus to other work soon (which I'll document in Lumberjack for sure), but I've got ideas if time allows: journey-specific AI gurus, leaderboards, journey-based feed, web3 consistency rewards... We'll see.
