Foundly

Step out of the algorithm loop and back into music

Foundly is a music assistant that doesn’t look at what you’ve listened to — only what you want to listen to right now. You type a free prompt — mood, vibe, similar artists, abstract concepts, existential crisis of the day — and Mr. Foundly suggests the right artists. A great way to discover (or rediscover) music. There are also daily deep-dives and a “random stuff” button, but honestly I just needed to fill those two blocks.

What do you think? …

I’m over 40, my back hurts, I barely sleep, and my ability to discover new music has collapsed faster than my testosterone. I’m still curious — that part works — but I have far less time to hunt for new artists. Meanwhile, Spotify decided my entire musical life could revolve around four playlists. So, as time went by, I kept listening to the same songs. I was stuck in a loop. An elegant loop, sure… but still a loop. An algorithm scanned my listening and kept telling me: “If you listen to this… you’ll inevitably like that.” No thanks. I want to choose. That’s why Foundly was born — a music assistant that doesn’t care about what you usually listen to, but what you want to hear right now. Mr. Foundly thinks for a bit (sometimes quite a bit — he’s not exactly a young lad) and then suggests the right artists: your personal red pill of music. Welcome outside the algorithm, friend.
