We've started distributing FFTrans Parakeet, a fully offline transcription app for macOS. It's completely free, runs entirely offline, and includes speaker diarization using the latest parakeet-tdt-0.6b-v3 model. No cloud, no tracking—just fast, local processing. On a Mac Studio M2 Max (32GB), it transcribed a 6-minute BBC clip in just over 30 seconds, including speaker separation. It can handle long audio files without manual segmentation, and it won’t cut off sentences mid-way. Recommended memory is 16GB, but it will run on 8GB if other apps are closed. I’ve tested it on a MacBook Air M3 and a Mac mini M1—both processed a 70-minute video without issues. The app is free and commercial use is permitted.

Parakeet does not allow you to specify a language for transcription.

However, we have succeeded in making this possible by inserting a special token.

There are still some small issues, but once we have overcome them, it will be possible to transcribe in a specific language.

Of course, the model itself remains multilingual, so it may not be possible to transcribe in a single language, but it should be possible to avoid frequently occurring Cyrillic characters.

This development also requires costs.

If you have a distribution server, you will be able to add and switch models.
