I'm almost done with Crushing It!, and I'm pretty pleased with what Gary has shared. As a regular (see also "devout") consumer of his podcast, a lot of this information isn't new to me, but that doesn't mean that there isn't plenty of Gary's wisdom left for me to learn. At the start, Gary squares up and gives a gut-punch to his audience. He's clear to call out phonies, liars, and "wantrapreneurs." Gary's initial advice is to present the current state of the Internet and the massive importance of building a brand. Then Gary succinctly explains what the future will be (not what it might be). He is clear about the importance of the practical things (intent, authenticity, passion, etc.), and he provides examples of others who are living examples of those traits and how their stories intersected with Gary (mostly from his first book, Crush It). As the book goes on, Gary creates a present-day guide for exactly what to do. Number one: create a Facebook page, because "Facebook is the cost of entry to building a personal brand." It might be a tough pill to swallow, but he's right -- not just on that one point but on every point in the remainder of the book. And I don't just say that because I'm drinking the Koolaid -- I'm a full-time marketer that's been ringing the warning bell about the incoming attack of the future on the tried and true methods of yesteryear since 2009. If you want to know what the future is and to learn from others, get this book. If you're happy with how things are going and don't want to rock the boat, don't get this book. Just don't say no one warned you that the future was coming.

@craigjbarber @arecenello @garyvee talks about 3 key things in his follow-up to Crush It: 1. Strategy: setting your mental mindset to overcome obstacles 2. Stories: Real-life examples of hustle and determination to inspire action 3. Social Media: strategies and platforms that can actually build your audience and influence What I like most is that he gives you some really practical ideas that you can put into action right away.
