Dig it. Would like to see some filters, not in terms of categorizing the startups more so categorizing my mood when randomly searching (am I playful, business minded, bored, etc.)
Report
@thejulielogan I like your idea a lot! Will definitely consider it.
@randomstartup :) what made you build it? And are you reaching out to startups actively to increase the quantity/quality of the random discoveries?
Report
@thejulielogan I wanted to play with Node.js over this past weekend, so I built randomStartup.org and that's basically all there is to the story :)
I will not be reaching out to startups just yet. I have hundreds (if the list hasn't gone over >1K yet) of startups to approve that people have already submitted via the "submit yours (free)" link.
Will think this week on how to take this idea further as I wasn't really expecting anything to come out of it. Like I said, it was supposed to only serve as a Node.js playground for myself.
Report
@randomstartup That is usually when the magic happens... when you aren't expecting it!
@randomstartup - does this work for domains with same origin restrictions? you're just using iframes, right?
Report
@nealrs Right now sites that respond with same origin or deny for x-frame-options HTTP header can't be showcased, but all this will change soon. I have a fallback solution in mind for those startups.
@randomstartup This is great! I'm the founder of StartupLi.st, and these kinds of products are always exciting to see. It would be interesting to chat with you and @jleebiz about these concepts. I think there's potential to work together.
Report
@erictwillis I actually added our startup (http://helprace.com) to Random Startup and to ProductHunt. It seems like's a huge backlog of submissions?
Or maybe boring things like b2b customer service apps are just not in vogue in this part of the web :)
Report
@vtlvrbnk There's a huge backlog of submissions that needs to be approved. Sorry for the inconvenience. We're working on automating the process so that startups get published faster.
Report
@randomstartup i figured, it's a great concept! I've submitted twice, so sorry for spamming :)
A new startup service every few days, with a fresh UX take of course. So, there must be some merit in this trend.
I wonder if @producthunt fueled it somewhere? :)
@randomstartup Do you by any chance have any sort of data on average conversion rates for startups discovered via your site.
I'd submitted my "coming soon" landing page around Sep 2 - and since then I've had approx 200 visits which is super. However only 1 conversion.
Of course that could also be a function of
a) the quality of the landing page (which we will A/B test),
b) there not being a live product to play with (MVP coming soon) or
c) the quality of the traffic itself (ie not the right audience).
So while I address things I can control, was just wondering about any analytics from your end.
Cheers!
Report
@AnujAdhiya I've actually started looking at the data these past few days and will write a blog post about the findings.
@vingar I do know of Clarity, but no, I don't follow the experts.
Thanks for the reminder though - they are a super resource which should be tapped at the right time.
Will say that so far I've had great advice from the @Growthhackers_ community for my testing/CRO type questions.
