Hey guys, looks like multiple people have questions about Hoko vs. Branch so moving this to its own comment. With Branch's offerings and Hoko entering the market - it's a good time to be a developer! Together we'll improve the ecosystem for developers and users. Here's what we're proud of at Branch.

1) Here at Branch, we think that providing the best experience on first using the app is essential to growth and engagement. It's important that this works well for every new user, in every use case, on every platform. Here is more information about our matching - https://dev.branch.io/recipes/ma... . To date, we have given over 100 million users a better first time experience with our links.

2) It's a massive task to make sure links work everywhere. We've spent a lot of engineering time making sure our links are supported on older operating systems and are up-to-date with constantly changing behavior on the major apps. We get into the weeds on this to help devs with issues like Android platform fragmentation - for example, our links work on the Facebook web view for both pre-Android 4.4 and post-Android 4.4 where the browser engine was altered to be based on Chrome.

3) We are also looking forward to stay ahead of changing deep link standards. Just integrating Branch means your app supports Google's App Indexing, Facebook's App Links, Apple's Universal Links, even Pinterest and Twitter's app content cards.

4) We've been working on a new onboarding flow for a while that we just launched - sign up and check it out! One you've been through the simple steps to integrate, we offer a variety of features like the ones you mention, Omar, and more - which makes complex behavior really easy to build.

We're excited to see what you build! You're welcome to reach out to us if you have any questions.

Thanks for your comments Mada. I was not expecting a new selling channel from you :-) but I'm happy to see you around.

Just to summarise. With HOKO, you can do all the great things that you are mentioning although:
- We do it in a simple and lean way. Because that’s what people want.

If we really want to bring deep linking to EVERYONE, it means building an amazing product that anyone can understand and use. Thinking of an iPhone ;-)

And we are taking it into a new level. HOKO is building a whole re-engagement platform. A platform in which apps can create dynamic connections with each other, in a way that they can move and drive traffic. Growth will lose relevance, as apps gain higher re-engagement rates.

We believe the world of mobile will change exponentially over the coming years, with apps decoupling from the web, and new ecosystems, created purely for mobility emerging. We are building the technology that will enable mobile apps to engage - both with their customers, but mainly with each other.
M
Hi there! I’m Joaquin (cofounder/CEO at HOKO). Great to have our product featured!

HOKO offers a tool for developers that want to integrate the new Google and Apple's deep linking and indexation standards into their Apps, and enjoy a higher flexibility to control and track their links from a single dashboard.

We also help developers go beyond Apple and Google’s capabilities, with some advanced tools such as linking though install (deferred deep linking), and metadata passing. Two features that can create amazing user experiences, like personalised landing pages after install.

We are also working on a tool that will help you exchange traffic with other apps installed in the same device through deep linking; there are hundreds of services that help you drive new installs; we are building one of the very first for re-engagement.

Our exclusive offer: HOKO is 100% free, but we are giving every Product Hunter one hour of real hands on support to help you take the most out of deep linking. Additionally, we can give you early access to our re-engagement platform.

We are very much looking forward to all your feedback on our product! Thanks in advance!

@joaquinfigaredo Curious to know what are your thoughts on Universal Links which Apple announced at WWDC 15 and if this affects HOKO in any way positive or negative
M
@goelv @joaquinfigaredo We've just posted a blog post about that! It goes into details on how to implement Universal Links. For TL;DR; - we embrace Universal Links (basically they make the overall user experience much better) and we're already compatible with Universal Links for iOS 9+. Check the blog post if you want: http://blog.hokolinks.com/how-to...
Varun Goel — Cofounder & Head of Product, Tripnary
@rikas @joaquinfigaredo thanks for sharing ! I definitely did not realise all the drawbacks of universal links (besides iOS 9+ dependency) until you guys brought it up. You've given me some food for thought now..

BTW - You guys are so incredible for writing down the steps of how to get started with universal links ! You basically saved everyone from watching the 50 minute session on 'seamless linking'. I know because I already saw it!
M
@goelv Thanks Varun! I'm really glad you found it useful! We know first hand how poor the documentation and general info around universal links have been from the big guys. We'll make sure to keep simplifying the deep linking adoption anyway we can.
M
Hi! I’m Ricardo, HOKO’s CTO and as some of you already noticed I’m a very big fan of Seinfeld (easter egg on our landing page!).

Our platform works smoothly with the new iOS 9 and Android M deep linking standards, but it also supports all iOS 5 and Android 1.6 and higher. You don’t have to worry about having legacy problems, or broken experiences. Shoot me any technical question that you might have!

Hi guys! This one's for the mobile developers out there...

HOKO has taken the latest mobile deep linking standards and technologies, and make them easily accessible for all iOS and Android developers - it means that you can bring users into any location within your app and even trigger actions from outside the app (eg. add a product to your cart from a link within your newsletter).

It's pretty cool. Hopefully their founders Joaquin and Ricardo can tell you more!
Diogo Teles — Product Lead
Having been involved in the build up of HOKO, I am really amazed with what they have achieved. The onboarding process and the integration are as easy as peeling a banana and the technology is reliable and efficient, things that other free services fail to deliver. Looking forward to see new re-engagement features that can boost app traffic and drive user experience.

Note: The Seinfeld reference on the Website is just awesome.
M
@diogocteles Thanks for your comment Diogo! I'm really happy to know that HOKO is delivering it's promise of being the easiest way to get your apps up and running with deep linking, specially after both Apple and Google recently announced that they will give more preference and exposure to apps that include this new technology.
Bram Kanstein (@bramk) — Made @startupstash. Now @offtherecord
I met Joaquin & his team at Seedcamp in March, love that this is 100% free! Mobile is (the present and) the future, and tools like HOKO's will help shape it!
M
@bramk Thanks Bram! We deeply believe that by providing great tools that are available to everyone, we are helping build the foundations of a better mobile experience. That's why HOKO is and will always be free.
Company's like this are needed and looking forward to exploring the possibilities with integration!
M
@kevinjonas Thanks for your comment Kevin! We'll be thrilled to work with you. We'll prepare some use cases for Yood and send them to you!
M
@kevinjonas Kevin, as promised, these are some examples on how Yood can start using HOKO. http://bit.ly/1KsEBHa I'd love to have your thoughts. Let me know if you want to coordinate a call.
Stuart Logan — CEO, Twine
Good work guys. Looking to integrate this soon
M
@stuartlogan thanks Stuart! We're very much looking forward to work with Clowdy!
Omar Pera — Co-founder, Perops
Serious competition to Branch.io, both being free. Hope you get a piece of the market!
M
@ompemi Thanks for your comment Omar! Both Branch and us are committed on helping apps get more traction; although they are focusing on growth; whereas we are focusing on re-engagement.

Why re-engagement?, because the total number of apps keeps growing at 40% per annum; but the average number of apps handled by a typical user has been stagnated under 27 for several years now. We think that by creating smarter connections among apps, we can help increase this number; benefiting the end user experience, but mainly benefiting the 2 million apps that are forgotten after the first use, to re-connect with their users.
Omar Pera — Co-founder, Perops
@joaquinfigaredo @ompemi Would love to see how the product evolves. For now I should be honest I will stick to Branch. Although I am using pretty much the same features you have: generate links with metadata. In the future I want to use their reward system and the smart banners.
M
@ompemi Thanks Omar! We'll definitely keep you posted on our new features. At the end, deep linking is in it's absolute infancy, and great things will start to come once more and more apps jump into this amazing technology.
Mada Seghete — Co-Founder, Branch Metrics
@ompemi Hey Omar - Mada from Branch here, thanks for the support. We've answered your question here: http://www.producthunt.com/tech/...
Maksim Petriv — Founder of Design Hunt
Sounds great. Would love to integrate something like this into Design Hunt iOS App.
M
@talkaboutdesign I'm glad you like it Maksim! Let me know if you want to schedule a call to make the integration seamless. You can write me at joaquin@hokolinks.com
Ruchi Bansal — VP, Product
Love it!
M
@ruchibansal Thanks Ruchi! We'd love to see it working with Eat Club. Let me know if you want to explore further. You can write me to joaquin@hokolinks.com
Ouriel Ohayon — appsfire, CEO/ isai (VC) co-founder
What s different here from other Deep linking vendors? (maybe i missed something)
M
@ourielohayon Hi Ouriel, Thanks for opening the discussion. On the one side, HOKO gives you all the flexibility and advanced tools offered by the big (costly) guys; but at the same time we are pulling towards a more free open source platform, where we keep up with the latest standards pushed by Google and Apple.

e.g. you have big companies that give you the flexibility to decide the experience you want for the end user, like driving an install and still bring the user to the final destination after opening the app (plus attributing the install to a particular campaign). The problem: this is not affordable for everyone, not only for the price you have to pay them every month, but also for the more complex operation they require. On the other hand you have open standards like mobiledeeplinking.org/ or Applinks which opened the world of deep linking and are available to everyone, but that don't support more advanced features, and cannot cope with the release of new standards by Apple and Google.

Why do we want something in between? - Because we are building one of the very first re-engagement platforms; in which apps can create smart journeys for the end user; boosting traffic for everyone, and creating more connected experiences. To achieve that, first we want to build a community of apps through our current platform, and then facilitate them the possibility to connect with other apps in our network. From our vision: "The future is one in which apps are no longer silos of data - but every user interaction will lead to another app in an interconnected web of apps and devices."
Terry Xu — Engineer, Twitter (Opinions are my own)
@joaquinfigaredo @ourielohayon Great strategy on monetize from data not users! Definitely would use a free service because it will save me days of effort reading the standard and doing trial and error on my own website. Love the UI and the analytics as well! Great job and good luck!
M
@coolnalu @ourielohayon Thanks for your comment Terry! I'm happy to see that our vision resonates with you. We also believe that by saving time and effort, we are empowering developers to focus on their core products, so they can keep building great things for the end user. Thanks for all the good wishes!
Ouriel Ohayon — appsfire, CEO/ isai (VC) co-founder
@joaquinfigaredo so your main difference is that you re free? (btw we participated to mobiledeeplinking.org and i agree that was not enough to push the adoption)
M
@ourielohayon Thanks Ouriel. Free, simple, and it just works. The three premises that we believe can push for faster adoption, which is basically the main challenge around deep linking today. You as you mentioned from your experience with mobiledeeplinking
Kevin Xu — CEO & Founder, imHome
Would love to hear more about how this compares to Branch.io
M
@imkevinxu Hi Kevin, thanks for your comment. Let me know if the answer I just gave to Omar works. Although our biggest difference relies in our vision and the final product we are building, there are still key differences in our current product. e.g. we support multiple standards, so with HOKO you are ready to run iOS9 and Android M in their "native" way, but still support previous versions. We are also extremely proud of the easiness to integrate and use HOKO. So proud that "other" companies have been spending "long user sessions" checking/copying our on-boarding process :-)
Kevin Xu — CEO & Founder, imHome
@joaquinfigaredo quick onboarding and simple documentation are definitely strong differentiators!

My main use case is simply sending invite deeplinks and having a custom welcome screen to welcome the new user. Does HOKO and Branch do the same thing on that front?
M
@imkevinxu Yeah! You can use HOKO for your invite system! We can jump in a call if you need some help/ideas designing it, and integrating with HOKO.
Mada Seghete — Co-Founder, Branch Metrics
@imkevinxu Hey Kevin - check out our docs here on how to build custom welcomes - https://dev.branch.io/recipes/pe... and take a look at the other features like our deep linked app download banner, referral/invite deep links and others!
M
@imkevinxu Hey Kevin, thanks for your comment on twitter. We are happy to see that you are giving HOKO a try! https://twitter.com/imkevinxu/st...

So some form of metadata comes through even on install? And it's the same on Android and iOS? That's pretty cool. Do you have any sort of a Unity plugin?
M
@trevorstricker short answer - yes, and yes :) We don't have Unity plugin yet but it's on our roadmap (lot's of different platforms to support actually, we are now finishing PhoneGap / Cordova and then Unity).
itamar weisbrod — CEO, Deeplink
If only this deep linking problem has been solved 10 times over already ;)
M
@itamarw Thanks for engaging in the discussion Itamar! I wonder if AltaVista and Yahoo had a similar thought the first time they saw Google search ;-) just kidding...
itamar weisbrod — CEO, Deeplink
@joaquinfigaredo I'm not saying first to market wins ;) I just feel like I'm seeing the same problem be solved in almost the exact same way, over and over and over. Google was solving search differently and better.
M
@itamarw Thanks Itamar; it's a fair point. Although we have a slightly different view of the real problem we are trying to solve. For us, the real challenge around deep linking is adoption, and not just keep pushing new features for the sake of it. At HOKO we just want to make the life of developers easier; with a product that solves their needs fast, and in a way that just works. If we can accelerate adoption, then we are bringing a huge value into the whole mobile world.
Ⓣⓡⓔⓥⓞⓡ — President, Disco Pixel
@itamarw It totally has not been solved in a cross platform way that works on install and doesn't do anything hacky like try to open a web page to set a cookie and doesn't break.
