Use Safety Wing?
Okay now after 4 open cases & months of chatting, mailing and calling with Safety Wing and its partner WorldTrips I am finally ready to rate my absolutely terrible experience with them. Let me first explain to you what happened to me: I got some worrying symptoms like dizziness, weight loss, numbness in my hands and feet, stomach problems and extreme fatigue. When I fainted on a street it was time to visit a hospital in Sri Lanka to check my body. They did several heart, brain, blood and stomach tests but were not able to give me a diagnosis. In total, I claimed 4 cases in November, December and January. They took insanely long to reply to any of them, the given 30 to 45 working days are not even close. It is more like 90 to 100 working days. I was in touch with several guys from their online customer chat. The homepage is fancy and everything works, but the service is ridiculous. Every time they told me that it needs 2 more weeks for their insurance partner to work on my cases. They even asked me 3 times for a document, that I initially sent them already via mail 8 weeks before. The full process was just so frustrating and time-consuming. Now the worst part: They did not cover a single dollar of my hospital bills. Their insurance partner WorldTrips denied all my claims due to a "pre-existing condition". They based that on suspicion from my physician in Germany (yes I had to travel back to my home country because my symptoms got worse and worse) of Lyme Disease. Later when I was checked in a German hospital, my Doctors said that it is not Lyme Disease caused by a tick. So the insurance seriously denied all my claims (which together are around 1,000 USD) for the reason of a pre-existing condition, even though I don't even have a diagnosis. I mean how can that even be possible? None of my doctors know what caused those symptoms but the insurance does know that it was caused by something before our contract time. That is ridiculous and to be honest, I would even call that a scam. The Customer Service of Safety Wing was also not too helpful to be honest in solving that problem or helping me with explaining that my symptoms are not caused by anything that was there before I bought my insurance. Conclusion: Their homepage looks fancy, and the process of registering is easy and smooth but if you really have a health problem that insurance turned into a nightmare for me. I lost not only all the money from my cases (that should be actually covered) & the monthly subscription fees, I also lost hours of time and nerves chatting and mailing with them. Please do yourself a favor and look for different travel insurance. In my case, the insurance was clearly trying to deny me with all possible methods and fictional justifications. If one of the Safety Wing Customer Service guys is reading that, please take your time one last time and review my case in a reasonable way. You can contact me via mail. Mario Helmer

I HAVE FILED A CLAIM with SAFETY WING/ WORLD TRIPS/TOKIO MARINE (all the same company) and what they did - they only found unreasonable excuses not to pay me! I got hospitalised in Thailand with Spontaneous Pneumothorax, the doctors told me its regular INSURED EMERGENCY CASE! MAP from Safety Wings tried to BARGAIN the hospital for too long NOT TO PAY THE FULL PRICE OF MY TREATMENT, so I had to pay all bills beforehand by myself because all their bargaining postponed my urgent treatment while I WAS IN A SEVERE PAIN!! The Pakistani guy is their so-called Medical Audit Professional, after my doctor talked to him he said "He is not a doctor, he has no medical knowledge!" By now I still didn't get payed! They offer money to my hospital directly (half price) and now rejecting to pay me anything??? Easy target! Just find a stupid excuses, no need to pay! PLEASE NEVER TRYST THIS COMPANY! THET ARE FRAUDS NOT THE INSURANCE COMPANY!

As a digital nomad traveling the world for almost 5 years now, Safety Wing has been my companion for almost the entire time since another traveler recommended them. While living long term in places I don't really need the benefits and perks a traditional travel insurance offers, plus most of the time they are hard to get benefits or unnecessary frills. Instead, I need to be covered for medical emergencies and expensive procedures, should they be needed abroad. I don't mind paying for a regular doctor consultation, but if I broke a leg I need to be sure I'll have a room and someone taking care of me, and the potentially high expenses covered. Safety Wing covers exactly that, at an affordable monthly rate. Personally, I used them while in Costa Rica to cover a 200$ procedure to unlock a blocked ear. They connected themselves with the Doctor and I had to pay nothing. After that, Covid broke in and they offered to pay the evacuation flight back to Argentina, which would have cost me around $2000 if I didn't have insurance. I didn't take it, but the offer was solid and it was there for me to use. Finally, the customer service is amazing and they respond quickly through the web interface.
I used Safety Wing for the whole of 2020 and most of 2021 while in Thailand and Vietnam. They were very good, and all hospital visits and procedures were in time fully paid for. I will use again on my next journeys!
