It lives right where you're already working. No context switching, no copy-pasting into a chat window, it just suggests the next line or block as you type. For boilerplate and repetitive patterns it's a genuine time saver. The tab-complete flow becomes second nature fast, and it's surprisingly good at picking up on the conventions in your current file. It won't architect a feature for you, but for the moment-to-moment grind of writing code it removes a lot of friction.

What needs improvement

The suggestions can be confidently wrong, which is worse than no suggestion at all because you end up accepting something that looks right and only catch the bug later. It also struggles with anything project-specific, if you have custom abstractions or unusual patterns it'll keep suggesting the generic version. The chat feature inside VS Code feels bolted on compared to dedicated tools. And pricing for teams adds up quickly when half the value is just autocomplete.

Use Claude Code and Cursor as well, and honestly they're better for bigger tasks like multi-file refactors or reasoning through a problem. But Copilot fills a different role. It's the autocomplete layer, always on, zero effort. Tried Tabnine and Codeium before settling on Copilot. Tabnine felt slower and less accurate. Codeium was decent but the suggestions weren't as context-aware. Copilot just has the best hit rate for useful completions.

What stood out to me about GitHub Copilot is how it's moving beyond simple code suggestions into a more agent-like coding workflow. The newer capabilities around understanding project context, generating multi-file changes, and assisting with debugging make it feel closer to an AI coding partner than just autocomplete.

I also think tools like this are changing how developers interact with software development itself. Instead of only writing code manually, developers are increasingly orchestrating and reviewing AI-generated implementations, which feels like a major shift toward agent-assisted engineering workflows.

to make it autopilot to do task and complete them without human supervision , like complete task when developer sleep.
