Very cool, although I wonder if there are legal issues with this. Also check out Play (for Medium), a Chrome extension that reads Medium articles.

@rrhoover Agree there might be legal issues. You might need to carefully read Medium's terms and policy to confirm that.

@sofisteee I used IBMs Watson API for the text to speech, I does an alright job, though there are some other ones out there that are better.

Great idea here 👍 Just a suggestion ☝️, I think you should add an option to choose the type of voice you want to hear 🗣 because this one can be little un-friendly when listening to many articles.

This is great, I've been listening to stories on Instapaper for a while. @gavindinubilo how did you get the web app to continue playing even when the lock screeen is on? Is that a media type you can define in the HTML?

@matthartman hey Matt! Thanks for the kind words. I just used the default js audio API for playing (did a similar thing with Songfari) and safari will add media controls. One thing I wish they'd add though is being able to set custom data for the media screen.

Very cool little app! I can't wait to see what you do with it in the future. It would be awesome to be able to choose my own topic, such as picking a tag that is used on Medium, and then scroll through the articles to pick what to hear.

I'm excited to try this! Hopefully it'll fix my workflow of going to Pocket and listening to the robot voice. *listens* ah, still robot Hawking. I was hoping it was real people. I'm happy to do all the voice recordings.
