The learning aspect is really unique, and perhaps worth doubling down on. The maker community have plenty of outlets to show final project work, but I feel like for others who might have the DIY itch theres an opportunity for Triibe to become the platform from which we learn? Great stuff

Don't know about the name + logo. I think it's at least bordering on cultural appropriation.

@barnabybones or maybe homage to a creative culture? Hopefully there will be a space for all cultures to contribute and share maker/creative ideas

@barnabybones Triberr has done just fine with this style of logo for many, many years. https://triberr.com/

@simonstjohn Cultural appropriation is when someone from a dominant culture (the company) uses elements (teepee) of a minority's culture (American Indians, First Nations) outside of its cultural context. This is often done in the guise of homage to the minority's culture, but intent does not ameliorate that it is cultural appropriation.

@theashtube I would say that they're also guilty of cultural appropriation.

@barnabybones so?

@barnabybones More than bordering. The name and logo stops me from wanting anything to do with the company.

@theashtube @barnabybones being popular definitely does not make something not racist.

@mostsmartest Thank you! You're right, it is more than bordering. I should have been more firm in my statement.

@barnabybones now cultural appropriation arguments are even on product hunt. The teepee was never just one indigenous people's home and the word tribe doesn't stem from just natives. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Very cool - seems very female centric in terms of site design. I guess that works well considering the demographic of who primarily uses Pinterest and those who create things on Etsy. At least everyone I've ever purchased from on Etsy has been female in a wide range of product categories.

Love this! Creating portfolios, even for designers, can be challenging. Triibe reduces that friction and puts those pictures you already take to good use.

Is it for painters too? Lovely.

Super slick design. Curious now that they've built it, will the makers come?
Rhiannon Lise@mostsmartest
Whyyy does this have to be racist?
Benjamin Lupton@balupton · Founder, Bevry
@mostsmartest how does it discriminate or hate?

Would love to talk to the makers of this. They've done an incredible job of building a loyal community here. We're working to build discoverable communities like this for all interests on Pinguin. http://bit.ly/phpinguin
