REVEALED: Leaked image shows Facebook's secret competitor to Snapchat glasses 😜
Also, this circular video format that Snapchat made with these glasses looks pretty awesome (and solves the portrait vs landscape video debate, at last). 👌

I actually like the fact that these are designed so they dont look ridiculous on your face like Google Glass
These are made in a very 'in-style' right now
This gif makes me think of Google Glass, especially compared to Spectacles 😎
Announcement on their site
Spectacles connect directly to Snapchat via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and transfer your Memories directly into the app in our brand new circular video format.
Circular video plays full screen on any device, in any orientation, and captures the human perspective with a 115 degree field of view. We can’t wait for you to see it!
Oh and one of the more notable awesome things:

This gif makes me think of Google Glass, especially compared to Spectacles 😎

@bentossell Same, the problem with Google Glass (well one of) was it they didn't look stylish. Providing they price it appropriately, I could see people actually buying/wanting these.

@caprihiggins I definitely think less selfies on Snapchat is an upside. Think of all the fresh + even more authentic content you can produce with these glasses. I think this will encourage Snapchat users to sort of go back-to-basics in using Snapchat for posting real life experiences that bring people together. While the selfies with their cool filters are nice, I tend to miss seeing real experiences, such as the one used for this promotion. I'm excited for this product 😃

@stefanritter "Stylish" is a matter of taste, I'd argue both have similar dorky appeal on the looks aspect.
But aside looks - the main reason Google Glass got social backlash is that having a camera pointed at your face at all times makes people uncomfortable, not sure if recording or not, with or without their consent.

Stefan Ritter
@stefanritter · building @ruumapp
@mj_baum seems they tried to solve that with the led lights indicating it's recording. In times of gopro and selfie sticks we've gotten used to being constantly in other people's vids... Plus spectacles targets a different demographic than Google glass did.

@stefanritter The Glass also has tiny red LED light, not much of a difference.

@mj_baum totally agree....techie cool but socially dorky and uncomfortable for those on the other end. Creepy, even. But each to their own...I can see for filming your kids, fun. Others filming your kids, not so much.

Very impressive product from Snap Inc. I love everything about it: the fashion direction, super focused use that fits Snapchat format so well, the name, the tweaks to the video format, the marketing. Also happy they didn't go with the ubiquitous Wayfarer frame style. Chapeau bas! 👏

I'm disappointed that these will only be able to be used with Snapchat. I would buy the heck out of these if I could film longer than ten seconds and save it to my camera roll- these are just frickin' cool camera glasses. But I hate Snapchat memories and try best to avoid it- it doesn't work very well on my phone. I have 20 failed uploads just sitting there. I guess I'll just wait for someone to hack these.

Kees Romkes

@ninjinka you can save memories to your phone already, so you'd only need snap to capture the video's. But I see an opening (like gopro is doing for periscope for instance)

@kees_romkes True, I guess a lot of my frustration is that my Memories don't work. They don't upload to Snapchat, so I can't download them. I would rather have it save to something more stable, like my camera roll.

@pddro I don't think the 'circular' format is anything more than marketing speak. It's not difficult to get the exact same effect in iOS using all the native media player resize flags. Best case scenario is that their 'format' just writes black in the 4 corners of the video as a technique to reduce file size.

@schnelle I see what you're saying. But something not being technically "difficult" doesn't make it any less cool. They're the first to do it that I know of, looks fun, and if in fact it's technically difficult to do, then extra points for them for innovating with minimal effort.
