Eager to try this out. We've been long time fans of Zoom.us, great for larger distributed teams. Slack Video Calls makes a ton of sense but it's already easy enough to type "/hangout" in Slack to start a Google Hangout. Other than being built-in to the platform, what additional value does this provide?

@rrhoover Hangouts = cut out all the time... (for me at least)

@bentossell @rrhoover Agreed, reliability would be a big one for me. Seems like Hangouts never picks up the right audio inputs every time. However, Hangouts will still be the best option when talking with people outside of your team.

@scottbuscemi @rrhoover yeh theres still the outside of your group issue... but I guess Slack aren't looking at that side of things anyway!

@rrhoover Going right in with the tough questions. I like it. Coming from a team that holds 50-60 person calls a couple times a week, I'd love to see how Slack video performs against our current favorite, Zoom.us. I can't imagine it'd be easy to toss Zoom on the pile of runner-up video services with the rest of them. I'd love to be wrong, though.

@rrhoover Video calls on Slack are WebRTC based so I guess : audio quality + video quality + real time + frictionless UX (no Google logins).

@rrhoover We think options are good. :D We want our customers to be able to choose whichever calling solution works best for them. We've built Slack Calls to give our users a quick and simple way to talk to their team within Slack. If you already have a preferred tool, our integrations with Skype, Google, Bluejeans, Zoom, etc. let you continue using it from Slack. In fact, you can even customize your call button in Slack to automatically default to the call service of your choice.

@rrhoover Hangouts causes a bunch of repeated issues related to people having lots of different google accounts, access restrictions, etc. Not to mention the technical issues. One thing that would make this a game-changer for me is if this is supported on mobile. If so, g'bye to hangouts/appear/et al :)

@one16th @rrhoover Bluejeans is the shit, but I'm stoked about Slack Video Calls (and was previously a bigly fan of ScreenHero which Slack had acquired).

@one16th @rrhoover I just don't get why Slack can't simply allow guest invites to the team call... I mean, you'd think that could be a solid user growth channel right there. In fact, couldn't that be an awesome upsell too? --> "Invite up to 100 guests per month for $50/mo"

@ajsharp yes, I'm with you on that one. I haven't found anything consistently reliable.
