Comments on “Slack for Mac
Ryan Hoover@rrhoover · Founder, Product Hunt
I think at least half the Product Hunt community uses Slack. Slack is built for single teams, yet people are using it with their friends, family, and small communities. Switching teams is still a major pain. Any plans to make this easier, @paulcbetts?

@rrhoover Hey Ryan, Is switching teams painful because of performance? Or because you have to log in to more than one of them?
Anže Jenšterle@craftbyte · Developer, Castaway Labs
@paulcbetts @rrhoover at least for me its logging in seperately (at least the ones without SAML/GApps). I have a school team, club teams and as a freelancer a lot of client teams. For me simply logging in once would be much easier.

@rrhoover @paulcbetts Would love to use it for more personal use-cases, but am hindered by this

@rrhoover Pain? Login once and then just CMD+1, CMD+2 etc?

@paulcbetts @rrhoover In my opinion, it is very hard because you need to log in all the time with the same username (email) for each team and I don't understand why I need to log in again on the desktop when I'm already log in on my mobile.

@paulcbetts separate logins for different teams is so wonky and clunky (technically speaking). would be cleaner to have one account that is given access to the different teams.

@paulcbetts adding a team isn't an issue for me but the friction of switching is high. For example, if I'm in 4 teams and want to see go through all my DM's and mentions, I have to click several times. @emilstahl thanks for the shortcut pro tip. I didn't know about CMD+1, CMD+2, etc.

@rrhoover @paulcbetts The biggest annoyance for me is that I can't use the same email address for multiple teams.
Paul Betts@paulcbetts · Lead Desktop Dev at Slack Technologies
@rrhoover @emilstahl That shortcut will make this experience much, much better :) My usual pattern for reviewing messages is: 1. Cmd-[1,2,3,...] 2. Cmd-K, Enter // Moves to a channel with unreads 3. GOTO 2 until out of messages 4. GOTO 1 until teams are read Our new All Unreads feature helps with this a lot too, we've recently added extra keyboard shor… See more

@rrhoover @paulcbetts I feel the same pain. I'm in eight* Slack teams, so my solution is to use the web version and keep a Window open in Chrome with a Tab open for each team. I think I like this approach better than the app because much of my other work is in Chrome anyway. *(my company, the local coworking space, several developer & vendor teams...)

@paulcbetts I think all we want is if we use the same email, we should be logged in to all teams use that email at once, not have to log in to each different team. I think it's not a hard technical problem. Instead of a magic email, just make a Slack Identity so you could link any emails to any teams you want.

@thejeremycarson @paulcbetts I totally favor this approach.

@paulcbetts Logging into each team separately is a huge annoyance. And if I set up a new, temporary team, I have to go through the entire process again. I wish the team setup process was a lot easier.

@paulcbetts @rrhoover here is my idea about Slack Identity https://assets.adobe.com/link/d7...
@craftbyte @paulcbetts @rrhoover sorry for the plug, but I made Smooz (www.smooz.io) to solve the pain point of being a freelancer/agency with several client teams. It's not yet solving the issue of club/communities, but for professional use case you might find that useful.
Emil Stahl@emilstahl · Partner
@danielsamuels I use the same email address for multiple teams. No problem at all?
Shubham Datta@shubham · Working with startups @SurePathCap
@rrhoover @paulcbetts a unified inbox of unread DMs, Mentions, etc of all Slack teams that you're in would be 💯. Like a triage screen of sorts.

@paulcbetts the Cmd-K, Enter tip literally changed my life. Never paid much attention to the channels it was bringing up before.
