A promising new password manager for Mac and iOS. Looks great. But I hope for a trial version soon, as it's a bit too expensive to try and see if it can lure me away from my beloved 1Password.

@t55 The fact that we couldn't offer iCloud Sync in a separate trial download made us choose this route. But we understand the need for trials, and we're working on it ;)

@pfandrade_ Good to hear that! Secrets has the looks, the functionality and the price to be a great choice for people looking for more basic password-apps than powerhouse tools like 1Password. But a trial is essential.

@t55 @pfandrade_ I know 1Password is comprehensive, but I don't feel like it's overwhelming at all. What do y'all say is the draw here away from a product already firmly established?
Paulo Andrade@pfandrade_
@andym_dc @t55 With Secrets we put security first. Secrets stores your data using the OpenPGP standard, a battle proven standard that has already seen a few revisions. This also allows users to easily self verify how their data is stored using third party tools. We also strived to make it extremely simple to work with, not just from an UX perspective but al… See more

@pfandrade_ @t55 An in-app purchase for more than 2 or 3 passwords might be a good way to do a 'trial'
Paulo Andrade@pfandrade_
@joantune @t55 yes, in-apps are definitely on the table. As well as a couple of other options for having a trial outside the Mac App Store.

@pfandrade_ @andym_dc @t55 I see, so no trouble of having something like this happen: https://medium.com/@rosshosman/1... For instance
Paulo Andrade@pfandrade_
@joantune @andym_dc @t55 @rosshosman Nope. We use the Mac's automation features to fill your logins in the browser. Besides avoiding the hassle of copying and pasting, security-wise it's also slightly better (i.e. no passwords left on the pasteboard to be pasted by mistake in a chat window ;), and no pasteboard snooping).

@pfandrade_ @t55 A non-MAS version would be good too. We have millions of users at MacUpdate.com that hate the MAS so launching outside is important these days.
Paulo Andrade@pfandrade_
@j_mueller thanks! Duly noted.

@j_mueller @pfandrade_ @t55 I have to agree with Joel, the intersection of apps outside the MAS, and those who think their passwords should be different and safe, is a large one that has to be fulfilled by availability outside the MAS. Kudos on the app though, for a MVP it's quite impressive!

@pfandrade_ hey, thanks for your reply! I echo everyone else's sentiments re: trial. I signed up for your e-newsletter, so I'll keep an eye out for announcements!

@pfandrade_ Ironically, the 1Password team solved this problem and kindly open sourced it here: https://github.com/AgileBits/Agi...
Paulo Andrade@pfandrade_
@edowling we're aware of that. We even considered a building a similar solution ourselves but we already had too much on our plates for version 1.0. And agilebits only open sourced that a little while ago.
