You need to release cheaper Personal plans. I can't take Zapier seriously until you sort it out.

@ausonio I'd be worried if Zapier didn't charge adequately to keep the lights on and their staff fed. If you really like Zapier, show some support! :)

@ausonio Zapier is WAYYYYYY valuable for the small price. Maybe you need more Zaps – it does so much!

@benhomie I don't have a problem with the price they charge for their Basic plan, but I simply have no need for 3000 zaps per month. I'm not rich enough to go around wasting money simply because I like their service. Why is there no range between their 100 zap free plan and the 3000 basic one?

@ausonio @benhomie They definitely seem to be focusing on business use as opposed to hobbyists or other use cases. I know I couldn't justify $20/month if it wasn't for something I was making money on.

@ausonio @benhomie That's a common business tactic called "anchoring", AKA make the basic tier a bare minimum, so upgrading to the next tier feels like a no brainer, even if it has more than you need.

@ghobs91 @benhomie Unfortunately, jumping from $0 to $20 p/m doesn't feel like a no brainer.

@ausonio @ghobs91 @benhomie Gotta agree with Andrew here. Zapier is focused on businesses, not consumers, and compromising that would hurt them and ultimately hurt their users. At Overnight we are constantly amazed at how much value we get out of Zapier. If you can't afford the lowest plan, you can use always use IFTTT for free, but it's not nearly as good.

@ethosventures @ghobs91 @benhomie Can you explain more how it hurts them and their users? The customer is paying a higher premium per zap the less that is paid per month.

@ausonio @ghobs91 @benhomie Because as Andrew said, they are anchoring. Imagine if their base tier was $10 instead of $20. What percentage of people who were willing to pay 20 are now paying 10? It could easily be 40% or more. That's potentially millions of dollars in lost revenue. To be a net positive they would have to more than double the number of "new base" users. Additionally, their customer support costs have now gone up. This tends to be a fixed cost per customer regardless of their plan. So now they have less financial stability and worse support when I was perfectly fine paying $20 - therefore I have been hurt. Generally speaking, when targeting businesses vs consumers, it is better to have less customers paying you more money rather than more customers paying you less money. It also creates a higher "perceived value" which is important to larger customers. If I have a million dollar budget, I am not even going to look at a service that's "only" 5.99. How could it be "good enough" for my enterprise standards if it's that cheap? Lot of dynamics involved in business pricing - both cost levers and psychology. Hope that makes sense.
@ethosventures @ausonio @ghobs91 @benhomie This isn't anchoring.. it's actually the opposite. If they were using anchoring they would be doing something like charging $20 for the business plan and $2 for the personal plan. Or, constantly having a "sale" on the $10 personal plan for $2. They're really just using the "give something so good away for free that people will eventually understand the value, need the product, and pay more" strategy.

@ausonio I use the biz plan n their support is FAST. don't think they can achieve the same with a larger user base.
