We’ve been in private beta, gathering feedback from some awesome members of the PH community for about 6 weeks (thanks for keeping this a secret, guys!). Today Product Hunt Games, our first new category, is open to everyone. @russfrushtick, co-founder of the awesome Polygon, has joined the team to make PH Games kicks. Oh, and you may have noticed, we made… See more

@rrhoover Here's a crazy idea: A credit feature like on Quora where you can ask a certain Product Hunt user their thoughts or to comment on your product by spending credit. Sometimes makers want to hear a certain persons opinion. The credit would be accumulated based on the quality of content they provide to the site, ensuring a valuable creator could get… See more

@rrhoover this is awesome, are you planning to upgrade the API ?
Jeff Needles@jsneedles · BI @ Meerkat & Maker of Things
@hosmelq @rrhoover seconded! @andreasklinger ?
Lukas Fittl@lukasfittl · Product Hunt
@jsneedles @hosmelq Yup, API update is coming for sure! We'll just start with adding a category filter to https://api.producthunt.com/v1/d... - anything else you think would be useful?
Ryan Hoover@rrhoover · Founder, Product Hunt
@danoliverlandy - interesting idea! To be honest, we DO want to encourage more thoughtful/relevant discussion but I'm not sure I like Quora's "ask ___ a question" feature. When I'm asked a question, it doesn't feel genuine when the "Quora machine" makes it one button click to request and it also feels like someone's giving me work. I'd like to explore or … See more

@rrhoover absolutely agree I've more often been asked to answer things I'm not interested in answering and it seems like work. However, occasionally I'm really glad I was presented the chance to present my thoughts to an interesting question.
Jeff Needles@jsneedles · BI @ Meerkat & Maker of Things
@lukasfittl Category on the post entity seems like it should solve it all! Because there aren't too many endpoints that don't have the post info embedded (where post info would be useful) Thanks!

@rrhoover Another question - how will this impact the Chrome Extension (particularly the new tab screen)

@rrhoover Congrats on rolling this out! New design looks even better in practice!!

@rrhoover I love the execution, minus one detail: the indicator for steam games isn't useful. I'd like to additionally see what platform the game plays on. Besides that, great job, folks! Really liking the layout with thumbnails on the index view!
Lukas Fittl@lukasfittl · Product Hunt
@tylermdavis Yup, platforms will be more flexible in this regard soon. I know its a bit annoying to see "Steam" and not "OSX and Windows" for platforms. Same for App Store vs iPhone/OSX/etc.
Eddie Pratt@prattarazzi · Product Manager, ProductSnacks.com
@rrhoover Hey Ryan, nice design changes :-) My only request would be to collapse the 'What do you think of this product?' box once a comment has been submitted. Otherwise a long comment is covered over by the expanded box after submission. Just allows you to read your submission and check it over without having to collapse the box yourself. Thought it might … See more

@rrhoover excited for the PH games launch. Can't wait to see the new VR games in the near future. Just a "crazy idea" / suggestion. What if there were a section for top 5 games of the month/year. Also, as your database of games grows, users may want to see the games categorized. ie. Apple Watch, VR, Steam, iOS, Android, etc. Thanks!
