Reviews

  • Pros:

open source, clean interface, straight development, great sync

    Cons:

    I don’t know.

Padlock is one of the first apps I install on my devices, because it makes my life so much easier. I can’t imagine a day without Padlock the same way I can’t imagine a day without my address book.

    Pros:

Easy to use, like the fact that it is open source, very quick and responsive design

    Cons:

None that I have found yet

I really like how quick and easy the application is to use. Its simplistic design made it easy to figure out how to input information and start using it. I would recommend it to my friends and am excited to use it.

Greetings Fellow Hunters! We're so excited to be on Product Hunt again! Padlock has come a long way since it was first featured on Product Hunt 2 years ago. Padlock 2 features an all new design and user experience, new functionality and a ton of improvements under the hood! For those of you who aren't familiar with it yet, here is a short summary on what Padlock is all about: While other products like to define themselves by their number of features, we believe that user experience can’t be be measured by the number of checkmarks on a feature list. So what does Padlock bring to the table? We believe its value can be summarised in three words: Simple - We value simplicity and ease-of-use over “feature-completeness”. Padlock focusses on the essential, and the resulting user-experience speaks for itself. Secure - Padlock takes a pragmatic approach to security. Our security layer is build on a rock solid, battle tested encryption scheme that exposes a minimal attack surface and is easy to implement, maintain and audit. Open - We believe that transparency is the best foundation for trust so we are building Padlock completely out in the open. Our source code is developed under an open source licence so any one can review it, provide feedback and offer contributions at any time. Padlock is available for free on all major platforms so don't take our word for it - try it yourself and tell us what you think!

Hey team! Awesome to see a different password manager product on ProductHunt. Can you share what makes you different from folks like 1Password?

@margotcodes Well, first of all, Padlock is open source which may not seem like a big deal to many, but it's a very important detail if you care about transparency and trust. Most popular password managers are basically a black box - they claim to be secure and to treat your data with care and respect for your privacy, but ultimately you don't have any way to validate this yourself. We care a great deal about transparency which is why we're developing Padlock completely out in the open. Anyone can audit our code, provide feedback and even contribute at any time! Now while the average user might not have the technical knowledge to actually review the source code themselves, it is good to know that the app is constantly being monitored by the countless eyes of open source community. This not only makes it impossible for us to build in "backdoors", it also means that possible security flaws can be discovered and fixed much more quickly. Padlock may not be the first open source password manager, but we believe that it is the first one that is truly usable and accessible to the average user. We want Padlock to be for everyone, not only technically experienced users. So we made it as simple to use as possible without making compromises in terms of security or performance.

No matter how many data I need to save securely and where I need to get access to it and on how many devices, Padlock serves me perfectly already for years now. But the best part: the developer can be reached personally if you have questions or problems. Both, product and services, make Padlock one of the few applications that I use over years and is installed immediately as soon as I have a new device.
