Do you realise that this behaviour can still be disabled in iTunes? Apparently, the description has been changed to "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected". I have it unchecked for all my devices and iTunes never launches when I plug in for a charge. So yes, "Overkill" is probably a pretty appropriate name TBH. :-) Perhaps "I Forgot to Google It" is more appropriate.

@frassmith Check out the description of the project, there are so many more reasons why iTunes would launch:
- You connect an iPhone or iPad to your Mac
- You click play/pause while listening to a web-based music player (e.g. SoundCloud)
- You launch iTunes by clicking on the icon by mistake
- Someone sent you a link to an iOS app
- You click on a link on the web, and didn't expect it to be an Music link
- You updated iTunes
- You open a file in Finder, and forgot to change the default app to VLC
