Comments on “Opera Reborn
Raul Perțe@perte · Designer · Makes iOS apps · Client's BFF
Ah, you beat me to it. Congrats to the Opera design team for taking an experimental approach with the Opera Neon and shipping it with all its flaws - the Reborn is exactly what the name says. Lovely UI and interaction, the onboarding is pretty nice and speed-wise, it's not that bad!

@perte I really thought nothing could drag me of my beloved Chrome. But I installed it today, and so far so good. Let's see how will it be long-term.

@sergiu_cazac @perte I'm giving it chance for the first time too! :D

The free vpn is looking great! The latency is low and the speed is similar to what I get without it:  See more

@brunolemos I've always been curious about what the do with the data.

@eonpilot that's been in there for a while. I'm just glad they are coming back.

@brunolemos @mxsawyer The browser VPN is a no-log service. :)

@brunolemos As more and more people use it, might it become slower?

Love the messengers in the sidebar.

Their VPN is useless. But i like UI and sync
Nick Ciliak@nickcil
@annonymous What makes it useless?
Freak so@annonymous · Manager
@nickcil ISP blocks some websites with Opera VPN turned on also Google is redirecting me to local Google version, then whats the point of having a VPN ?
Matt MacPherson@itsmattmac · Maker of Edabit
@annonymous Sounds more like your ISP is useless.
Freak so@annonymous · Manager
@itsmattmac NA, I use Windscribe Pro and it really do the job, problem is with Opera.

Lovely! I can now remove WhatsApp for Web from my dock. 😍 🤓 Personal news is too good for setting up the sources and quick browse whats-happening.
Sam Johnson@samjohnson__ · Developer
Loving this so far, but how do you get the compact messenger view? Mine has the sidebar to the right with 'options', 'people', etc. Ends up looking very messy.
Jacek Spikes Wozniak@jacek_spikes_wozniak · Web Developer
@samjohnson__ click the ( i ) icon in the top right corner to hide the options

@jacek_spikes_wozniak Thanks mate :)

Congrats ! Nice design i love it ! Do you have a developper tools in it?
Sergiu Cazac@sergiu_cazac · Web Developer, Geek
@clement_jlt Developer tools are exactly the same as in Chrome. It's webkit.
Clement Jlt@clement_jlt · Co-founter Ulys
@sergiu_cazac Ok mb, i clicked on F12, it wasn't working
Sergiu Cazac@sergiu_cazac · Web Developer, Geek
@clement_jlt Ctrl + Shift + C should work

What I love in neon is totally new tabs design. Now its gone in the new opera. maybe it would be good to make it possible for user to switch between tabs style.
Giacomo 🐍 Lacava@toyg · Python aficionado, geek, dad.
@csaba_kissi try Vivaldi, it gives you a bunch of options to customize tabs and it's compatible with Chrome extensions.

I wish they had added Slack to the list of messengers.
Pål Joakim Pollen@paljoakim · Technology Editor, Dinside.no
@ignaty spot on. If you haven't already, check out Franz for combining several messenger apps into one.
Ignaty Nikulin@ignaty · Founder and CTO at Cone-headed Cat
@paljoakim, thanks! I've tried Franz but found IM+ for Mac to be better.
Pål Joakim Pollen@paljoakim · Technology Editor, Dinside.no
@ignaty thanks for the tip – does it support the cmd-t shortcut from Slack? One of the very few things I miss using Franz.
Ignaty Nikulin@ignaty · Founder and CTO at Cone-headed Cat
@paljoakim sorry, no. IM+ and Franz both use web version and ⌘+T seems to be a desktop only option, but ⌘+K should work just fine.
Pål Joakim Pollen@paljoakim · Technology Editor, Dinside.no
@ignaty ah, hadn't noticed there were two of them. Thanks!
Alex Strafalogea@alexstrafalogea · Starter
@ignaty actually I created an issue on their bug tracker for developer version a while ago with this improvement. Don't know what happen with it tho'. @paljoakim by having Slack I would totally move away from Franz, although there are some red flags here because of so many distractions that are now concentrated under one window - THE browser.
Pål Joakim Pollen@paljoakim · Technology Editor, Dinside.no
@alexstrafalogea I also enjoy having my Facebook pages' inboxes as separate tabs in Franz; doesn't seem to be a feature with Opera Reborn?
Hal Gottfried@hgottfried · Founder, Level Up Labs
@paljoakim is there a mobile version ?
Lyondhur@lyondhur · SM UX/IxD Designer ProdDev & Scrum Coach
@ignaty been using Rambox.
Ignaty Nikulin@ignaty · Founder and CTO at Cone-headed Cat
@lyondhur yes, I've tried it as well but I can't use something as ugly as this, just can't, its UI make me cry a bit every time I see it. IM+ for Mac is perfect for me so far but having all of the messengers in a browser would be awesome.
Johny Pereira@johny_pereira
trying it since yesterday and i'll admit, i'm in love with it
Matt Aunger@matt_aunger · Community at Pop Products
YEEEEEEAH BUDDY! I loved Neon, so I'm pumped to give this a try for a few days. Can't wait to see more messaging integrations. Workplace might be a good one, as we've recently started using it. Slack, would also be good. I guess these things will come in time! 😄
Lucas Haas@hdoubleas
Highly recommended. Slick UI and super fast navigation.
Reorx Xiao@novoreorx · Python Developer
OK so this is not a browser, this is an IM and VPN client that can open links on the right side
Sam Johnson@samjohnson__ · Developer
@novoreorx How isn't it a browser? What's it missing?
Reorx Xiao@novoreorx · Python Developer
@samjohnson__ there's no functionality missing for Opera Reborn to be a browser, it's just not so dedicated as other browsers are, personally I think a browser should just focus on requesting and rendering pages, it can offer APIs for developers to extend it's functionality, but it shouldn't ship these things (IM, VPN) on product level.
@novoreorx @samjohnson__ If it is just another browser, how can it attract users from other browsers?

@rafyasarmatta There is also Bravo and Vivaldi. Vivaldi is also doing some interesting things that are out of the norm. @arthurgd3 what is Toby?
Bruno Lemos@brunolemos · Developer // Node, GraphQL, React Native
@rafyasarmatta I didn't understand your comment, because Opera uses Chromium under the hood, so it's basically Chrome with design tweaks
Mohammed Rafy@rafyasarmatta · Community Manager at DoSelect, Inc
@brunolemos It's Opera's Opera. No one cares what is under the hood.
Vessi@felicityforever · A curious mind
Nice design! Really like it!

Looks great, good for everyday browsing but for development I'll have to stick to Mozilla and Chrome.

Opera has always kicked ass by its own unique vision of UX and UI, and no doubt the messenger integration is a fantastic useful feature. What I am really surprised by is the fact that I can't change the position of the sidebar :) It would be really great to be able to move the sidebar to the right side, dock it to the top, or the bottom of the window. I am… See more
