This book is an absolute game-changer. My co-founders & I used it to reposition our SaaS product, shifting from a market category in which we couldn't compete to one in which our competitive advantages shone brightly. The effort has paid off with 1) people more immediately "getting it," and 2) way more trial signups as a result. Buy this book.

Hands down the most practical book I've come across on actually developing positioning for your startup. Highly recommend to anyone tackling positioning! I wrote a detailed review of the book for those interested here: https://www.sachinrekhi.com/positioning-for-product-managers

I discovered April's work about a year ago through a keynote talk she gave that focused on positioning. I was immediately drawn in by the clarity of her ideas, the relevant real-world examples, and her awesome sense of humor. This book delivers on all three of those points. Zero bloat, all value. And lots of great context around the impact of the ideas across an organization from brand to marketing to sales to product alignment. It's already grabbed some coveted space on my desk so that I can jump back and reference specific sections quickly. Great read, great resource!

If there's one person who knows about positioning, it's April. Her book is just the beginning of the depth of her knowledge. That said, it's so thorough it does make you wonder how much more she has yet to share with the rest of us! Years, no, DECADES of experience and insight is inside these pages and you should consider it the fast track to getting inside April's brain. Read this book. Read it again. Implement 10 pages. Do it all over again. Watch the massive results roll in.

People decry a lack of sales talent with start ups and while that is true, upstream there’s a complete lack of positioning that will hamper the best salespersons ability. What are they selling actually? If you are a technical founder - you’re probably too big and geeky. If you are a sales/marketing founder you’re drunk on your own koolaid. You get the idea. Do yourself a favor and don’t spend 1000s with a marketing firm that will repackage your existing words into a pretty format. Go read this. Do the work. You’ll be better for it

This book is short, well written, incredibly practical and an absolute must read for anyone who is building products. April is a product positioning genius, one of those rare people who have walked the walk and can talk the talk. Truly excellent.

The book has helped us understand our business much better and the feedback from our messaging has improved significantly as a result. I found the real world examples to be especially helpful in understanding how to apply the concepts. I also highly recommend attending one of April's talks if you ever get the opportunity.
