Go home Nokia, you're drunk. "But it has Snake" In all seriousness this (I assume) is for people looking for something v cheap, perhaps a first phone, going travelling would be good because of the month long battery life!

@bentossell Without even 3G? This phone is pretty much useless or I'm missing a set of demographics that will use this.

@saifalfalah @bentossell Yeh. Quite a big demographic too, half of the world. Many developing countries don't have 3g.

@saifalfalah People who just want to make phone calls. People for whom a smartphone is too fancy and does more than they'd ever want. I know tons of people like this. They'd rather save money than spend it on something they're not going to use.

@saifalfalah @bentossell Many many people, especially in third and second world countries. Even some in first world countries who want basically a call-only phone (or even a backup no-data phone in a bugout bag)

@bentossell One month is estimated standby time, just for clarification.

@jsanc623 @saifalfalah @bentossell Right they are willing to pay 50 euros for this. This is targeted at the hipsters that's fo sho. If I want a brick phone I get a burner.

@bluemonk482 @saifalfalah @bentossell $53 USD is not a lot - even in 2nd/3rd world countries, compared to the original 3310 selling for $15 to $25 USD, and other 'entry' phones selling for $20 to $30. Not everyone will have one of these, for sure - but it finds its niche. An original 3310 will have what, a week of standby time? The one month standby time for this phone is going to be a major selling point in places where electricity is hard to come by. Certainly it will be a 'luxury' for people in say - Sub Saharan Africa - who earn on average $762 per YEAR, but it's not going to be an item they'll have to purchase multiple of in a year - and second hand 3310-reboots will eventually make their way out to 2nd/3rd WCs for much much cheaper. Considering it's long battery life, it makes sense in places where electricity might be harder to come by.

@jsanc623 @bluemonk482 @bentossell 53 USD is not a lot? Let me tell you something, it is. I live in a country where more people than the entire population of the United States live below 2$ a day. And let me tell you, this won't sell. Think about it, are these people not using a phone right now? They are. And there are phones available at less than 10$ here. Do you think someone's going to spend five times that amount for more or less same features? There are plans to launch phones with VOLTE support for < 20$ which will have lifetime of free calls included. Do you think anyone would be a phone more than twice its price and for what? Everyone, including the poor are aspirational. They'd rather save and upgrade to an entry level Android than buy a phone for its brand. And when it comes to brand these people couldn't care less whether it was a NOKIA or POKIA. And when it comes to electricity, these people are more resourceful than it initially meets the eye. Let me know when you're coming to India. I'd love to show you around.

@jsanc623 @bluemonk482 @bentossell Just so you know, this is what you get for 50$ here: http://www.amazon.in/Karbonn-K9-... Dual Sim Five Inch Screen 3G Good enough battery And this is just one phone. There are hundreds of phones in this range. And there are even more when you go to shops in rural India. Let me know how this Nokia will sell, again.

@saifalfalah @bluemonk482 @bentossell Because each and every one of these people will require this phone brand new? I think not. Notice where I said "certainly it will be a luxury", and "second hand 3310s will make their way for much cheaper", and "not everyone will have one of these for sure". The 3310 reboot will find it's niche - people making less than $2 a day will (by majority) not be that niche - considering they make $730 per day - yet SOME of them will have these reboots (maybe not new, but eventually). As for the electricity bit - sure they're resourceful, but let's see how resourceful you are during a 3 or 4 day blackout at night, and your Android phone will run out of battery in the next hour or so. Nowhere did I mention this as a brand recognition thing. If it was, people would much rather have a Samsung or other big brand that's tied to spec phones (which Nokia is not). Stop arguing for the sake of hearing yourself. As for showing me around - no thanks. I have plenty of other developer friends in India that I'd rather hang out with than you.

@jsanc623 @bluemonk482 @bentossell You're funny. People can get a first hand Android phone starting at 30$ and they'll buy this joke of a phone, second hand. Give me a break. People use solar power to charge their phones. And there can't be a 3 or 4 day blackout "at night". Because you know, the sun rises. And thank you for being so friendly. I'm not sure that they'll be happy to hangout with you, as unpleasant as you are.

@saifalfalah @bluemonk482 @bentossell So everyone has access to solar panels (of any size)? You're pigeonholing everyone into one bucket of accessibility and discounting others. The initial price for this phone is $53 USD. How long until this finds its way to secondhand markets for a third or fourth of that price? Plus, not everyone needs an Android phone that requires constant charging (my case: sub saharan africa, where longevity is preferred over features (why dual sim? why "good enough battery" over "amazing battery"?). You're only thinking of 1 case (gen India).

@jsanc623 @bluemonk482 @bentossell Yawn. Dude, I didn't know you had "sub saharan africa" all figured out. My apologies. Continue with your endless tirade.

@matthewboyle25 Many developing countries have 4G LTE at least in Africa where I come from, and 3G is a fallback when LTE isn't available/in range, just not everyone has flawless access to it because not everyone has an LTE smartphone, masses can access 3G because there's a wider range of 3G enabling phones most people can afford. Don't always believe everything they say on the Telly.
