Muzbnb

Muslim-friendly version of Airbnb

get it

Muzbnb is a muslim-friendly Airbnb. I count myself lucky that all my Airbnb experiences have been pretty wholesome, never has a host made me feel unwelcome or discriminated against. Sadly, that's not been the case for everyone. Hadi built this platform after hearing horror stories from friends and family about their experiences. He wanted to provide a safe alternative. Muzbnb was born.

Well yeah, let's make a specific service for every group/religion/gender/sexual orientation. You are promoting segregation with this app.

@suijkerwerk This isn't the first time an underrepresented group has created their own version of Airbnb, we've featured Mister BnB on PH before

@suijkerwerk Tell the team at FarmersOnly, JDate, AmericanDating, RuralOnly, TraditionalDating etc about that will ya? Oh wait, segmentation works.

@suijkerwerk @abadesi I agree people are getting bent out of shape for no reason about this product, but I'd hardly call 1.5 billion people an underrepresented group (as of 2011)!

@suijkerwerk @scotty_bowler They are in the USA where this product is based. 🇺🇸

@suijkerwerk @abadesi It's serving a global market though? Which means they're actually an overrepresented group, making up over 1/7th of the world's population... Claiming diversity quotas in this product is definitely disingenuous on your part.

You should promote science and knowledge, not this.

@unnanego This reply doesn't make sense. This is ProductHunt, this is a product.

@chrisaplin well, then it's a bad product since it doesn't promote science, knowledge and critical thinking to its users, which would have made sense and be so much more useful than it is now - offering some "special" products for "special" people. It looks like buses for black people in the US.

@chrisaplin @hadishakuur it's not hate, it's not promoting and assisting ignorance and stupidity

I’ve lived at Airbnbs in 8 cities and I’ve been their customer since 2009. Never have I ever been discriminated while living with one of their hosts. My cousins use it all the time and some of them are hijabis as well. The only reason they use Airbnb is because they feel safer. Totally agree with Kees, as well. You’re definitely promoting segregation.
Faisal Hassan@faisal_hassanx
@hadishakuur "Tell your cousins to holla at me" from a Muslim friendly Airbnb founder. Excellent. I can definitely see how this will be safe for women considering the founder himself does not mind being a creep on a platform like Product Hunt. Well done.

@hadishakuur Wow. The thought of ripping this up on Reddit almost crossed my mind but judging from your responses to the other comments, you're the kind of guy who'd be okay with publicity, be it negative or positive. Not worth it. Next up, Muzbook, Facebook for Muslims.

@faisal_hassanx Please don't hate me for this.. but... The Muslim Facebook already exists 😱.... https://ummaland.com/ (360K users btw) And the plot thickens... *dun dun dun dunnnnnn*

This reminds me of the #Airbnbwhileblack movement a few years ago which was inspired by discrimination. Innclusive and some other Airbnb alternatives popped up and met with controversy. At the end of the day, people want to feel welcomed and safe. If people want to list their home or rent houses within these focused communities, that's their decision. 😊

@rrhoover Thanks for the upvote, Ryan. ✌️ Something tells me you have a bright future ahead of you! 😉 #RyansInTheHooouse PS. I promise to nevvvvver make a Muslim Product Hunt. I won't do it, Ryan. 🖖🏽🖖🏽🖖🏽

Great to have you here on PH today @hadishakuur. I know groups like the LGBTQI community have also created their own Airbnb alternatives after facing discrimination on the platform. And Airbnb have been actively removing hosts who don't take bookings from certain groups. There have been a lot of developments in this space. Could you tell us a bit more about how you've built your team at Muzbnb and how you're scaling the business?

@abadesi Thanks a ton for the support! It's an honor to be on Product Hunt. I'm a huge fan of Pieter Levels and Mubashar Iqbal (among others) and hope to one day be mentioned in the same vein as them. Honestly, I was a bit weary to post on PH due to the unaccepting attitudes of some when it comes to a maker utilizing faith-based segmentation for his niche. Especially Islam. Interestingly enough though, I've had tons of people from all backgrounds express how impressed they are with the idea and have even offered financial support to the project. For that I am grateful, and have learned to take the praise with the criticisms (I'm trolling on PH though because I love balance and to ruffle the occasional feather 😜). I digress. At Muzbnb, we have a team of about 8, not including advisors. The team has come together organically, being that we all know each through each other. Our devs are all fullstack and are spread out in USA, South Africa, and Pakistan. We pre-launched in Jan 2017, and starting accepting registrations/homes in September. Having felt like we validated our idea enough, we're going to start truly marketing Muzbnb this year. Up until now, we've just relied on press, in which we've received a lot globally. We're also bootstrapping so that's kind of limited us in ways. We'll be seeking some funding this year too. 😊
