Besides through ICANN's ridiculous application process where they charge an $185,000 "evaluation fee", there's quite literally no other way for anyone to get a top-level domain (TLD). Handshake names exist on a decentralized blockchain that nobody owns (Handshake is completely community-run), which makes them private and seizure-resistant. Personally my favorite part is the fact that the winning bids in Handshake name auctions don't get paid to anyone — they're just burned and disappear forever! Doesn't get much more fair than that :) I own "johnnywu/" and you can already access my home page via "home.johnnywu/", my LinkedIn via "linkedin.johnnywu/" and even my MeUndies referral code through "meundies.johnnywu/" LOL. It's so much more human readable than the superfluous ".com" at the end of domains. Happy naming~

You can own your name on the web for very low cost, I own my name for just 10 cent 😂. You can even sell subdomains like popular companys like Godaddy, HostGator, Domain.com etc. of your topleveldomain, Hell yeah start your own bussiness! .On top of that you get censorship resistant, decentralized, Private - domain by default.

Exciting, as things build and develop further we will link to our businesses to TLD's we have got/bought in the auction process. The TLD links will become more accessible to our average clients as time goes by. Gifting TLD's is another very cool aspect of Handshake. We are into giving people we know especially younger contacts a Handshake TLD for their future.....one time purchase for a lifetime contact............ and for often a few cents! As Bhanu says you could sell subdomains if you wanted to. We are looking at a project to give every child at the local school a free Handshake TLD to play with...let em loose I say.

I've been using Handshake since it launched and the creative freedom of owning your own domain (I own http://존나.예뻐 😂) on top of the privacy, low cost, etc. is better beyond imagination than renting a subdomain under .com or .io. 10/10 recommend
