Their approach to finding and promoting breeders is sketchy.

Inquisitive techie

very excited for the build out

Pros:

What an awesome platform- game changer!

Cons:

Nothing yet

@kate_allen Not so awesome. They do not fairly represent themselves to the breeders at all, and are very misleading. They are also control freaks and like to make demands of the breeders. It's a good thing for the buyer, but the breeders are all getting 'health test' harassed beyond reason. DNA testing covers it all and should be adequate.

@kate_allen @billie_brannock DNA is a laugh, you utilize it to make a few breeding decisions, hips, eyes, thyroid as are other breed specific testing should be required and is not to be certified and on the site.

@kate_allen @billie_brannock We live in Milwaukee, WI. We are glad that you posted your review. It has been very difficult for us to find a reputable dog breeder in Milwaukee, WI. I know that you don't breed American pocket bulli puppies but you might know someone who does. Pet shops are the worth place to buy a puppy because most of their puppies are the product of a puppy mill. We are ready to bring home a new companion/pet. We are retiree seniors (baby boomers). Yay!

@kate_allen i have used this product. I posted an honest review about how the search would bring to me places that wasn't near me. One states the breeder doesn't guarantee the puppy. Its just mirrors and smoke. I have ran into complaints of taking their money, no dog but they trusted the breeder. The other they know she never got a dog. The review is on their own site! I can't show screen shots, the places they advertise at will not let me show proof. I pray people will wake up Do your homework!

@kate_allen @billie_brannock They are already taking from buyers, smoke and mirrors. They do not do home checks as they tell us buyers they do until I had a breeder tell us in the room she hadn't had one since she joined 6 months ago. They want all your dog information AKC, but does not check to make sure dogs aren't being bred with the same blood line but using a different dogs number. It saddens me how well built this place is, yet under neath just like petfinder started off to be. Good breeders/puupy mills. If you read their pages, they are only allowing shelters to post but they do not help in any way. It covers up all the bad their doing... Really makes me sad.

inquisitive I suppose!

Not used the product yet

Pros:

Love the idea

Cons:

Just want to get full use of the platforms potential

There are over 70 million homeless dogs in the United States alone. Breeders contribute to this problem. Additionally, purebred dogs often experience serious health issues that lower their quality of life.

Pros:

Helping people find great shelter dogs to adopt is awesome.

Cons:

Commercial dog breeding is immoral and should never be promoted or deemed “reputable.”

I needed to add this.
What an asinine thing to say. If you think puppy mills are the same as small AKC breeders, I would say you're taking the PETA approach to animal welfare advocacy.

@deleted-1765933 Not all independent breeders lack ethics, and many make health their priority. You need to take the time to research some honest breeders and keep your opinion fair, not biased.

@john_cockerill Thank you! This Good Dog site approached me (a breeder of Labradoodles) with a ton of questions, a lengthy phone interview, and other questions, only to insist I adhere to a ton of health tests for all of my AKC registered breeding stock as they do not feel DNA tested backgrounds are adequate. Due to their control issues I opted to not use them, as I refuse to have anyone tell me what I should or shouldn't do with my dogs when it is my health guarantee that I have to honor if anything did ever go wrong with any of my puppies. I want less censorship and control like the PETA issues with Facebook, and Good Dog only offers more harassment and demands. These guys get rich off the small breeders such as myself, so I refuse to give them any more than is absolutely necessary, nor do they have the right to demand such exclusive and uncalled for measures to be sponsored by them. Their logo is nothing more than a bogus hype as they pull the Breeder's strings to follow their rules--yet they get rich from us.

@deleted-1765933 no they don't help. They only let a shelter advertise between the puppies their trying to sell, their not matching up homeless to real homes. Please go read their page and you will be OMG..

@john_cockerill when you think their real and their telling me the puppy will not have any health guarantee, you spend money because you need a good dog for a service dog, my others are rescue but my disability with large dogs i need to gage dogs ages. If already this place is breaking its terms, they don't help hook up shelter dogs to people, is no different than my dog rooms i go to that do rescue, check homes,. Do you think I'm 2020 Covid, their doing all this for free, heavy promotions.. spending lots of money.. I go on facts, not assumptions

This company approached me (a breeder) with a less than honest facade indicating that the breeder is their priority by allowing them less censorship as portrayed on Facebook and other restrictive websites. Not so. They provide a quite lengthy questionnaire involving your breeding ethics and details, require a phone interview as well, only to come back with an additional demand of tons of health test requirements in order to qualify. I thought having DNA tested, top quality AKC breeding stock with champion backgrounds should be adequate, but not for them. To me, all they stand to gain is more followers by demanding so many health tests when the breeders themselves are the ones issuing the health guarantees that we have to follow through on. I'm trying to get away from control issues and censorship, not be forced into following someone's list of rules to please them. This is about me, my dogs, my puppies, and MY CUSTOMERS. So don't fall for their ruse of doing this site for the breeder, as it is all a false front to draw the breeder in then make demands for us to adhere to their very uncalled for and stringent rules. Glad I know this now so I can pass the word on to all of my AKC breeding friends.

Helps educate puppy buyers and prepare them for their new additions. Helps breeders improve their practices.

@rex_gaylord lol far from it.. smoke and mirrors. Its just to hook you to buy or a breeder to believe they need this. A con- happy a new place to sell their backyard breeders

If they actually only allowed top of the line breeders, they certify breeders that do not do the bare minimum of recommended testing. They certify breeders that are not trying to better the breed. This is a pet brokerage service and that should scare anyone looking to use them to find a puppy as they are making money by certifying breeders. Buyer beware they talk a good game but I would recommend you go to the breed club of the breed you are looking for for breeder recommendations not a website that is taking a % of the sale price. Yuck no better than Petland.

Accept merle colors and stop being hypocrites and allowing some but not all Bulldogs and Frenchies. Big scam

Purchased an amazing German Shepherd puppy from Von Eichenchain! So glad I saw them on good dog. Truly special dog!!
What a joke of a company. Clueless at what good breeders actually are. They are poised to be just like Yelp and other sites that will start charging ridiculous money to breeders or else... They went after us hard for no reason, no evidence, nothing... just an anonymous phone call. They sent out emails to EVERYONE that has ever contacted us through their site and disparaged us and actually had zero reasons to do that other than a competitor breeder (we think) called and gave them some unfounded allegations that we even provided proof against. They removed us, then disparaged our program to everyone! Phone calls and emails to all our current clients, future clients, anyone who reached out through their site. Now they want you to use their payment system? oh no!! We had one payment go through them... they emailed and called that person to make sure they still wanted to have that go to us vs someone else they would love to recommend for them vs our program. They would have not sent us the payment if they didn't want to. They will have far too much power over your programs. They are clueless about what a good program actually is, the testing, ages of breeding dogs, and much more. The people who run this is a joke, mention all these professors and tiny town vets that actually have nothing to do with the company. The company is just another profit-hungry machine, filed out of DE like other huge corporations to hide the actual investors, registered to do business in NY to have an office there and the investors are ruling the roost on their soon-to-be residual income from the breeders while they pull the heartstrings of the families looking for a dog to rake in the profits. If anyone loves how Yelp works as a business owner, then this is the site for you. If you hate being told what to do, how to do it, pay us or you'll be removed or ranked very very low, have your deposits and money held over you to comply, and paying a monthly fee for what came out to only about 3% of our puppy families referrals, then stay clear. This company will be the source of so much frustration for you, your program, your family, your finances all for their profits, off your hard work and as we all know, breeding is a full time job for your entire family, 7 days a week, 365 a year.

I found a breeder who used Good Dog to communicate with me about adopting a dog. It seems to have worked quite well. She was honest and obviously cared for her animals. I hope for her sake that this site does not take advantage of her unfairly as she builds her business. I felt confident because she belonged to a network of breeders and other organizations like AKC, CKC, etc. The process was smooth and professional. My new dog is a jewel.
