The team behind Flockjay is world class. Kelly’s insight into the field combined with her mentorship has made a huge impact in my own career - anybody who joins Flockjay will be lucky to learn from her and the other amazing professionals behind the program.Pros:
Addressing a huge problem in techCons:
None that I can think of
Kelly Schuur is the most incredible Sales leader, and I'd recommend anyone looking to start a career in Tech Sales pursue the opportunity to learn from her!Pros:
Helping members of underrepresented groups break into techCons:
None off the top of my head!
Kelly was instrumental in my sales training. Not only is she a joy to be around but she helped build the fundamentals that I relied upon for success at Intercom and now at Asana. She understands the tech space as a whole and helped me find me place in it :).Pros:
Flockjay's mission to support communities of color is worthwhile. They've also got awesome programming that enables folks who have relatively little background in tech to break into the industry in less tech focused roles.Pros:
Great support for folks interested in landing opportunities at tech with a positive mission in helping communities of color! love it!Cons:
Relatively new start up, continuing to gain traction for the future
As a women of color in tech, you often hear the rhetoric that there just aren't enough people of color in the candidate pool... "where do we find them?" FlockJay is solving an important and real problem of limited access to resources in underserved communities. They are demystifying the 'why don't we don't have more representation of other backgrounds in tech' by bringing resources/tools/money into communities.
I love that by having no up front cost, it enables folks for different socioeconomic backgrounds to apply. Sales, like anything else, is a learned skill and it's great to see that this company is not only making space for these voices, but actively supporting people's career growth. Who in turn, can also support their families and communities. It has a ripple effect.
A service like this has been long needed and I'm happy to see that incredible people like this have built a program that uplifts community. Kelly was an incredible mentor to me in my sales career and I'm excited to see the beauty of FlockJay come to fruition to provide a safe space for people to learn and grow their sales skills.Pros:
Serving underrepresented communities in tech. The amazing leadership will distill amazing valuesCons:
Kelly, Head of Sales at Flockjay, has years of experience growing and leading sales teams and employing a personal, human, and team-oriented approach. She's been a mentor and teacher to me, helping me grow my career from SDR to manager. At Envoy, she helped me build out our outbound sales efforts and trained my team, and we could not have launched that as successfully without her. Anyone who gets to learn from Kelly (and, I'm sure, from the other leaders at Flockjay) is incredibly lucky!Pros:
A wealth of experience and a sales leader passionate about diversityCons:
The team behind Flockjay is stacked with sales expertise. We have worked with Kelly to train our own sales reps and it was the most efficient and rewarding process. I am so excited to see the team at Flockjay scale such an important and valuable service. Can't imagine a more qualified and passionate team going after this problem.Pros:
Full of sales expertise, allows you to scale/grow faster, world class leadersCons:
Haven't encountered any
I know first-hand the extreme dedication, integrity, and years of expertise the founder of Flockjay brings to the company. Shaan and his team are highly focused on bringing the best experience to new candidates as well as diversifying and enriching the tech sales job market.Pros:
Would highly recommend; Excellent management/talent; strong mission and commitment to hiring diverse tech sales executives; easy to useCons:
I've been in the tech education/vocational training business for a while now and haven't been this excited about a program since 2013.Pros:
Strong founder with an elegant, scalable solution addressing a huge pain point for both companies and jobseekers alike.Cons:
Nothing obvious. I'm struggling to think of any that aren't addressable.
They have an amazing mission and product that makes tech accessible for people from underrepresented communities.Pros:
Flockjay is addressing a huge gap in today's tech world and is making huge strides to bring much needed diversity and opportunity.Cons:
Haven't seen it live yet!
This is a cool idea, and builds on the rubble of similar models in the dev bootcamp space, which had great models but unfortunately faced the difficult truth that great dev skills just can't be learned in a matter of months.
Sales on the other hand, is a different story.
As a founder of a B2C/B2B tech company in SF, I've experienced first-hand the serious shortage of junior salespeople in the market. What we need are smart, driven people with a modicum of experience. We can't take folks from square zero, but we can take them from square one.. and it sounds like Flockjay can help get folks there.
Very excited to see your progress, guys. Be in touch once your first class is ready.Pros:
Good solution for a problem I experience every dayCons:
Is the total addressable market big enough? How do you solve the geographic disparity between supply and demand for sales personnel?
