@ourielohayon It's interesting. Perhaps the boomer / senior market represents an underserved or area of growth. More than 10k boomers age-in to 65 each day. This demographic is probably still using a DVD player and will not adopt streaming as readily as others. If this market is in the millions of users, makes sense to not forget such a large market.

@lewis502 @ourielohayon or simply folks that don't have the bandwidth at home to stream continuously in HD (or even lower res). There are still rural areas without fibre.

@gregop @lewis502 @ourielohayon When 3Mbit down is the best you can buy, streaming is not good.

@gregop absolutely right. My parents aren't even that rural and still face that exact issue. My dad would prefer to pop in a DVD than have to fight with a crappy streaming experience.

@lewis502 @ourielohayon I use dvd service because Im a film major and the movies I want are only on there

@lewis502 @ourielohayon they named their spinoff dvd.com when they were trying to focus businesses but it is mostly blu-rays (in addition to dvds). Until the delay in blu-ray release to major streaming sites diminishes the market will probably continue. The launch of more and more niche streaming sites might cover more of what isn't licensed as well. My dvd.… See more

@lewis502 @ourielohayon My wife is 32. She just appreciates the extra selection that Netflix doesn't have for streaming.

@lewis502 Nothing worse than a film that keeps pausing to buffer ... aarrrggg

@lewis502 @ourielohayon Also note the messaging in the video: When they're talking about sharing, they say share via Email, Text, and social media. That messaging is definitely not targeted at <40.

@ourielohayon Fascinating.

@honan @ourielohayon YES! What was amazing about Netflix when they were mail-only *was* their selection. But their streaming service is *hugely* lacking. I wish more people remembered they could get just about any movie they want from the DVD service. I just hope they don't shutter it due to lack of interest (after killing the independent rental shops that u… See more

@lewis502 i think it s not just for the boomer/senior market. see how they market it on the app store. it s really about getting the prime time titles first before they go to streaming.

@ourielohayon good point... As most have pointed out, DVD is not nearly as extinct as many have thought!! 💿📀

@gregop @lewis502 @ourielohayon That's exactly right... I would love to have NetFlix at home but our rural area internet can't handle the stream. Buffers too much to make it worth the trouble.

@eby @lewis502 @ourielohayon Totally respect what they're doing for the older and less savvy customer. But let's be real about their shrinking collection. For a company that takes technology seriously, there has to be a better solution than physically mailing people DVDs.
