Hi Product Hunt! I’m a PM on Dropbox Paper. Dropbox Paper is a way to organize your team’s knowledge in a single place. With the iOS and Android apps, you can now create, read, or make edits to Paper docs, see all your notifications in a single place, and quickly read and reply to comments. We love to hear your feedback and answer any questions you have!

@christinacaci When will Dropbox Paper be better integrated into Dropbox? The current firewalling between Paper docs and other docs is a pain.

@christinacaci Yes! Excited for this. The web version is awesome and we've been using it at https://hardbound.co to create our stories for the past couple months. Been eagerly awaiting a native mobile version.

@christinacaci Awesome :) Seems the competition for cloud document collab (including messaging) is getting bigger by the day, as @rrhoover said with Quip being acquired by Salesforce and even yesterday Amium launched too. Dropbox obviously has a great presence in the cloud document space, what do you see as the main points to teams using this vs others in the space? What is currently missing in the space that Dropbox Paper will look to fill? What have been the biggest challenges in building this?

Hey @christinacaci I absolutely love Dropbox Paper. Can you please share a bit more about the future of Paper – better organisation, integrations, native app?

@nbashaw can't wait to hear how you all find it!

@christinacaci awesome, very excited about this. Paper is critical to our workflow—everyone in the company collaborates there. Does this app address offline access? kudos to you and @iandiola and all on the team working on this

@christinacaci @iandiola also, cool to see you now have an app icon. Guessing that will make its way to the browser version as a favicon? Seeing all the blue boxes in our browser tabs made it difficult to distinguish between Dropbox and Paper. We are definitely power users, would be happy to provide additional feedback if that would ever be useful to you.

@stoweboyd def hear you. there's integrations between the Paper and Dropbox mobile apps and desktop notifications now, and we're working on adding more integrations between the two. over time, we absolutely see Paper and Dropbox coming closer together.

@thebent @iandiola yeah, we're super excited about the app icon. the two squares are actually the center of the Dropbox box. it's visually stunning on its own, and it's great conceptually too: Paper surrounded by Dropbox, with the two of them working together.

@hwk73 yeah, absolutely. we think there's two key parts of Dropbox Paper: magic documents and shared organization. on the magic docs front – you'll see us improving the document canvas itself. we've heard from our users that embeds (Google Docs/Sheets, YouTube, etc.) and tasks (checkbox and mentions) really stand out. there's other workflows around giving notice, seeking feedback, getting approvals we think we can simplify, too. on the shared organization front – you'll see us extending how teams can keep track of projects in Paper. there's several pieces of "keeping track of projects": understanding what the project is, who is doing what, where someone is blocked (slash where you're needed!), and how the project can move forward.

@thebent @iandiola if you favorite a doc in Paper, it'll be available offline on the mobile app (just like w Dropbox.) offline editing isn't here yet, but watch this space ..

@christinacaci tried on iOS. 1. [copy, edit, comment] menu doesn't come up by touching on checkbox in non-edit mode (could be difficult to do, but worth considering if not already considered) 2. [copy, edit, comment] menu gets converted in [select, select all, copy, comment, define, edit] menu when you resolve a comment and come to back to main view (where stuffs are written). Hope this reaches critical mass. More n more people need to know about it.

@mkagenius super helpful – thanks! [1] is on our list of things to add and [2] to fix (they both just missed this release.)

@christinacaci Cool! [Self Referencing Links]: If a document has a link which points to itself, and when you click on it, it creates a new UI-View and again if you click on it, it creates a new UI-View (and so on..), to go back to original document you have to click on top left back button multiple times. Ideally, maybe it should just somehow "refresh" the current view? like what happens in a browser.. [Self Referencing Links]: When you are deep inside the self referencing link, and you delete(or edit) it. The original document gets deleted on the server. Although its an expected behavior it might confuse people thinking "Wait a minute, I didn't delete the original document, i deleted the one inside of inside of it!".
