We recently saw Polymail launch with a huuuuuge response after Mailbox announced it was shutting down. How do you justify charging $20 for a mac email client vs a free app like Polymail? Especially with no free trial. Honestly I'm still figuring out why I need any extra email 'fluff' that warrants me using an app other than just using Gmail. I downloaded… See more

@bentossell - Our 3M mobile users have been asking for a native Mac app. This is by far the #1 feature request. - If you are only a Gmail user, one of the advantages of a native app is increased snappiness, alt tab switching, etc (basically every advantage of a desktop app) - CloudMagic really shines when you have multiple email accounts across vendors (Wo… See more

@bentossell "I downloaded Polymail but never use it, and since updating I've had issues getting back into it": 1) how come you never use it 2) what do you mean by "since updating"? updating what and why's that affect things?
Ben Tossell@bentossell · Community Lead, Product Hunt
@_jacksmith when I first got it, I couldn't see an unread vs all in my inbox... that put me off. Not sure I need all the bells and whistles. I star emails for later, read, reply and delete. I'm always on top of them each day. I was promted today with an update to install, so I did. Now it keeps asking me to sign in, when I type in my details it says can't… See more

@bentossell If you have multiple email accounts a client is really necessary. I have to imagine Google is thinking about that though, and will have a solution eventually. That being said Polymail is the best new Mac email app on the market, would have tried CloudMagic if there was a trial but would never pay $20 out of the gate

@bentossell Got an e-mail from @karthiksuroju asking me to join the conversation on Product Hunt and share my thoughts. So here are my thoughts: 1) I never joined the mailing list for this product 2) The e-mail address it was sent to was the e-mail address I use for some of the Product Hunt slack channels, which tells me it's been farmed (not cool). 3) I've… See more

@rossdcurrie @bentossel yeah i got an email saying that they were live on product hunt as well. not sure where they got my email as I've never downloaded any of their apps either. @karthiksuroju any insights where you got our email addresses from?
karthik suroju@karthiksuroju · Marketing @CloudMagic
@_jacksmith @bentossell I am part of the maker hunt slack group and that's where I got your email. @_jacksmith, in fact, we even exchanged some messages over twitter a couple of weeks ago about CloudMagic for Mac. Sorry, I went overboard.

@_jacksmith @bentossell @rohitnadhani @karthiksuroju - you should really address this question on where you got the email addresses from. This is leaving a big question mark for me on whether I want to try the product. Please let us know.
Jack Smith@_jacksmith · Serial Entrepreneur & Startup Adviser
@karthiksuroju fairplay for owning up to it fast. But yes. Was too much imho to add people to a mailing list without asking, or giving a way to unsubscribe
karthik suroju@karthiksuroju · Marketing @CloudMagic
@edholloway @bentossell Like I said earlier, I got the email from a Slack community I'm part of. You can see that here- Hope I've addressed your concern. See more

@karthiksuroju @bentossell yes - thanks for responding

@bentossell Agree 100% with Ben Tossell. I use cloud magic for iOS as my main email client and waiting for OS X client for a long time, but to pay for it is not in my plans at this moment. I was a peer user of mailbox in the pas (iOS and OS X) and I only moved to Cloud Magic as the Mac client at some point was useless as it was freezing all time. I don't lik… See more

@karthiksuroju @bentossell I got the email too. Next time, I think you should ask, at least on the Slack channel.

@bentossell Did you just admit that Mailbox (free) shut down and then wonder how they can justify charging $20?! Personally, I've tried them all and the free clients all shutdown/sell-out and the cheap ones are all crap. The market for Mac email clients is a wasteland. Call me when there's a Mac email app with a business model built for longevity.
Ben Tossell@bentossell · Community Lead, Product Hunt
@ideasasylum I merely asked the justification versus other clients e.g. polymail which had tremendous launch and feedback. As I said, I don't use them. But this is a question others have too

@bentossell +1 to the free trial. $20 seems steep to me.
karthik suroju@karthiksuroju · Marketing @CloudMagic
@rossdcurrie @bentossell No simple way to do trials on Mac App Store. Our mobile apps are free and if someone is new to CloudMagic, they can try our mobile apps first, if you like us, you can pay $19.99 to complete the experience on Mac :)
Ben Tossell@bentossell · Community Lead, Product Hunt
@karthiksuroju @rossdcurrie what about a lite version?
karthik suroju@karthiksuroju · Marketing @CloudMagic
@bentossell Trials are not allowed on Mac App Store. Maybe, we need to make the app available on our website as well. That will give us the flexibility and freedom. We weighed the pros and cons of Mac app store and decided to go for it. Maybe, at some point of time, we can think of offering the app on the store and our website, just like many Mac apps do. Bu… See more
