My co-founder @antoinedcg and I have lived in cities around the World: Beijing, Shanghai, Cape Town, New Delhi, Paris, etc. When we 1st started getting to know each other, we talked a lot about that and if we felt safe in those cities.
We couldn't really give each other a straight answer regarding physical safety. There were either anecdotes or how we actually felt at the time. Friendly conversations evolved into chats about whether "we should figure out if we can build technology to make data on personal safety more transparent and objective," which turned into "how would you even go about finding security if you needed it?"
As an experiment, we tried to get security for the same day and found out how much of a horror show the experience was. We then built a booking portal to test if this was something people might want.
@samclamdisco Gotchya. Is there a significant demand from people that need a security guard day-of/ last-minute? Seems like optimizing for that aspect of the business could be a major logistical challenge.

Wait, @samclamdisco: is the name "Bannerman" a Game of Thrones reference, as in "Call the bannermen!" …?
@samclamdisco from your origin story, it sounds like this service is primarily targeted for bodyguard-esque security services. Is that the case or do you also think there's a market for event security (or additional help at bars and restaurants)?
On a separate note, is $35 the going standard for hired security? I ask because where I went to college that was the cost per guard per hour for hosted events.
Saw this in http://techcrunch.com/2014/06/16...
"With Bannerman, you can visit their site, give a date, address, and the number of security guards you need, and within 30 minutes they’ll have everything set up. Not quite Uber-level speed, but way less of a hassle than trying to find and arrange similar services through a private security company."
