By using Augmented Reality on iPhone and iPad devices the ARchi VR app let users capture rooms onsite and in 3D. Architectural elements such as floors, walls, doors, and windows are captured in an AR view and will immediately be displayed on the mobile device as 2D floor plan as well as interactive 3D visualization. Additionally such captured spaces may be experienced as Virtual Reality by using the ARchi VR app on an iPhone with Cardboard-compatible VR glasses. Right away from the ARchi VR app 2D floor plans with automatically calculated dimensioning (as SVG image) and 3D views (as WebVR HTML page) can be shared with colleagues.
ARchi VR is using Apple's new ARKit technology as well as the WebVR-based visualization toolkit 3d.io by Archilogic. Also based in Zurich the Archilogic company runs a Web-based platform providing a 3D space editor so that room models uploaded by ARchi VR can extensively be edited in 3D in the desktop Web browser and enhanced with interiors from an impressive furniture library. From the 3D space editor the captured and enhanced room models may be exported in diverse 3D file formats for further processing. With this new approach of capturing, editing and sharing building information using mobile and Web-based services architects, interior designers, real estate managers, and private persons will improve their collaboration and will enhance the accuracy of their planning activities.
ARchi VR runs on iPhone 6S or later, iPhone SE, the iPad Pro, and the latest 9.7-inch iPad with iOS 11 installed. ARchi VR is available for free on Apple's App Store in the "productivity" category.
