@ssnacks, hey, I'm one of the cofounders of Airtable. Thanks for checking us out! You can:
1) Import a CSV (new app/table => import)
2) Directly copy and paste data from Excel/Google Spreadsheets/Numbers into a table.

Holy shit! This looks powerful. Way tooooo much happens in Excel still. Instantly reminded me of what Quip did to my MS Word usage.

This looks amazing, great work. The product tour is particularly impressive and I'm immediately finding excuses to use the app.
A couple of initial thoughts:
1) It would be great to have a formula to count linked records for a given row (e.g. COUNT(Actors) in the Movies workspace).
2) Being able to access properties/columns of linked records would be incredibly valuable (e.g. AVERAGE(Actor.Age)).
I might be an outlier here, and what I'm asking for is essential SQL queries, but if I'm working in a spreadsheet-database hybrid I'm going to want the best of both worlds, right? ;-)

@colbyh Thanks very much!
We actually do support this already in the form of "Roll Up Fields", rather than "Formulas". Roll Up Fields are used to aggregate up some attribute of linked foreign records.
We don't support COUNT in rollup fields, but we will in the next release.
Email me at howie @ airtable.com if you have trouble setting this up. For an example, check out our VC Portfolio Company example https://airtable.com/templates/v...

@howietl The roll up fields are exactly what I was looking for, perfect. Any plans to make this go deeper than one table?

@colbyh Can you email me at howie@airtable.com? There might be a way to do it with the existing formula/rollup fields, or we may need to build it out--depends on exactly what you're trying to do

@howietl It's just a cursory look into the rollups, so I'm more or less throwing example data in and seeing what I can get out. When I start using Airtable `in anger` as they say I'll let you know if there's anything I can't seem to figure out!

Love the subtle design decisions you made for many parts of the product, this should be the standard for all spreadsheets/databases compared to the current systems

@reubenpressman Coming soon. Basically you will be able to configure a view that is a chart (or a calendar, map, etc) instead of just a grid of data, and you'd be able to specify filters and group by statements. We may also integrate with 3rd party charting providers (ie Chart.io). Thoughts? Feel free to drop me a line at howie @ airtable.com if you want to discuss further!

@reubenpressman If you send me an email at howie@airtable.com, I'll put your contact info in our internal CRM (powered by Airtable, of course!) as awaiting that feature. Basically we have a table of people linked to another table of "Features" they're awaiting, and as we release each of those features we'll email the people who were waiting for it!

We're using it to manage our sales leads, press contacts and beta schedule. It's been brilliant and I particularly love the mobile app and being able to relate fields to make consolidated groups of content like feedback per industry group.
Despite their free tier offering everything we need right now, I *want* to give Airtable my money! I suggest you do too :)
Also, Airtable's support has been nothing short of exemplary and I hear they're implementing some of the feature requests we've put through!
