AirBuddy

Bring the same AirPods experience from iOS to Mac

4.1/5
About

AirBuddy brings the same AirPods experience you have on iOS to the Mac. With AirBuddy, you can open up your AirPods case next to your Mac and see the status right away, just like it is on your iPhone or iPad

Cons: - The only way (I have found) to connect my AirPods is by placing them into the case and then opening it, there's no way to manually connect them. Toothfairy does a much better job of this. - Control is managed through the Today sidebar which I never use. I was expecting a menu bar icon for easier access. - Installation was kind of confusing, you have to manually add the sidebar widget. I didn't read the small text at first and was confused Overall the idea is really nice and I like the way it's built. However the user experience leaves a lot to be desired and unfortunately this won't replace Toothfairy for me until I can manually connect/disconnect my AirPods.

Pros:

- Works as intended, visually very close to my iPhone and what I would expect from macOS out of the box

It interesting have level battery separate of each earbuds when it is out of the case like the experience in iPhone.

Pros:

It's works similar to iPhone. Amazing!

Cons:

Some things need to improve like the level battery of each earbuds when are out of the case.

Thanks for the review! AirBuddy shows separate battery levels for the earbuds in the widget when their battery level is significantly different, it won't show them separately if their battery level is very close (within 5%) of each other.

Intuitive to set up, instantly recognized my Beats Studio 3's with the correct color

Pros:

Works flawlessly as advertised even with other W1 - enabled headphones

Cons:

Minor UI bug

If you work in a fairly populated space or a public area, be prepared to be spammed by any and all available devices. I really wish there was a way to say ONLY connect to devices on my iCloud account.

Pros:

I have more success connecting my Airpods with Airbuddy than via ToothFairy

Cons:

I installed airbuddy, and I open the app choose my settings add it to the side bar. All went good. Now I open my case and it does not bring the graphics to my screen. Have rebooted and tried to do other things. Doesnt seem to work for me at all.

Pros:

None

Cons:

Does not work for me

The setup process can be improved. I think I did something wrong but I don't know what it is. I am able to show my BeatsX on mac but unable to do so the 2nd or 3rd time. Update: It is working as expected now. No setup needed. I think iCloud just need time to connect and sync permission.

Pros:

It works as intended.

Cons:

I'm unable to make it work for the first time but the next day it is just working fine, I don't know why.

I tried to contact with developer, but not get answer. Absolutely useless thing

Pros:

Not work correctly with 2nd gen AirPods. I tried to contact with developer, but not get answer. Absolutely useless thing

Cons:

Support 2nd gen AirPods

I haven't found a way for this to work. Doesn't matter whether I connect to my MacBook Pro or to my iPhone, as is recommended in the manual, the pop up window only shows randomly and I can't tell when it does. Connecting to my Mac manually works 100% of the time. I would not recommend this product.

Just bought this and love how seamless it is! A few things I wish were different: - The modal window could look a little more native - I'm not a big fan of today widgets, would be much nicer as a menubar app that I could click on to see the battery levels - Similarly it'd be nice with a menubar icon I could click on to easily connect to the AirPods, even if they're out of the case. Usually I'll switch between my laptop and phone and never replace the AirPods in-between. I can do this right now using the bluetooth menu but it's cumbersome and buggy - Installation leaves a lot to be desired user-experience wise, it wasn't until I read these reviews that I discovered the today widget and realized there was no menubar app
Thanks for this helpful little app. I got the airpods 2.-gen for Christmas, saw your app on reddit and immediately bought ist. Works perfect on my private mac and work-macbook-pro. Really, makes switching between devices much easier. Two things or features i would like to see in a future version: 1. please add a task-bar icon which leads to a preferences menu or that just displays all the information airbuddy displays in the sidebar. And don't kick the sidebar feature out! 2. please add an "easy" way to manage multiple airpods at the same time. I found an more or less easy way to use more than two pairs of airpods at the same time, to watch movies with a macbook in a train. But the super easy way we have in iOS13 for multiple airpod pairs and so on is still missing in mac os. To motivate you a little bit: I already told some colleagues and friends of your app and most of them consider to buy it, if not already bought it ;-)
