I saw this book mentioned off hand in an interview with David McCullough. What a book. It tells of the last hours of the Titanic and the people aboard it. It's exciting, it's sparse, it's poignant. One of the best narrative non-fiction books I've ever read. If it was published today it would be a sensation. That it's 60 years old is almost unbelievable. Nathaniel Philbrick, who wrote another favorite of mine, In The Heart of the Sea, writes the introduction to the new edition.
