I've been writing a lot in Google Docs, and wanted a real-time word count and milestone markers. So I built a little extension. Maybe you'll find it useful too!

Feature request - ability to add milestone markers at other intervals (100, 200, 300 words) for shorter content pieces.

Feature request: Flesch-Kincaid scoring. Being able to tell on the fly if my word length / sentence length / grade level is over the head of my reader would be super helpful.

Can it also do character count? I have a lot of things that I have to write that have character limits and think that be a great add on. Most of mine are characters including spaces.

Very nice and simple Sahil! Maybe giving the option to switch it to dissenting would be pretty cool :) And maybe it could auto switch when it hits 0 or something like that.

I always felt the urge of having some tool to facilitate this feature in google docs. Glad to see this.

I’m sure a simple text highlight will give this information to you. But in a world where character counts matter for a variety of reasons, this is very helpful little tool. Thanks for sharing!

I've been searching for something that does exactly this for months! This is brilliant, so simple, exactly what I needed! I'm a mature MSc student, so word counts for assignments are really important and this is perfect :) thank you so much

After searching for months to get an add on that does exactly what this does, just shows me the word count of the document I'm working on. I'm a mature student, and being able to see exactly how many words I have when working to tight restrictions is great. Fab little app, couldn't do without it now and I've only had it 5 mintues!

Pros:

Simple, effective, does exactly what it should

Cons:

No cons, perfect, does exactly what it says

Doesn't work at all for long documents. It requires that you manually scroll through the document so it can count the words as you scroll, which can take a very long time for long ones, especially because it scrolls several times slower while counting. Works fine for very short docs, but if you deal with long docs, you could save time by just using Google's trashy little menu to look at the word count.
