Hey everyone,
It's a bit of a surprise to be hunted today, but I'm happy to tell everyone about VCV.ME - the video resume that speaks for you.
VCV.ME helps job seekers to stand out from the crowd by applying with a video resume in addition to a text resume. Diversity in hiring is one of the biggest features of the modern world, and video CV reduces bias by giving an opportunity for people from all groups to express their personality. Video will represent 80% of all internet traffic by 2021 according to Cisco, and according to eMarketer 94.1% of millennial internet users were streaming digital video in 2019. With growing demand for video social media such as TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram stories and others, we're bringing the short video format to the job market. We believe that video resumes will become an essential feature on the job market because a one-minute video application saves companies many hours of screening candidates, and it also spares candidates from unnecessary interviews. Due to the current pandemic, many people are unemployed, but a video resume gives them the chance to show their best self when applying for a new job.
Thanks, @alphahunter Mahesh for hunting us!
@alphahunter@arik_akhverdyan how does video-CV impact "diversity in hiring"?! It obviously makes the problem much worse. HR-managers will see applicant's skin color, hear their accent, and even worse — may use it to judge the applicant's appearance.
@abram888 Hi Tony, thank you for this great comment. Having spent first 10 years of my career in recruiting I've seen that unfortunately bias can enter the hiring process at any stage. And one may be rejected at a higher level because of the accent, skin color etc. even if he/she passes the stage with a recruiter successfully. I experienced that prejudice myself being a woman. So I do believe that video resumes can help struggling with bias and prejudice because you can show what kind of a person and specialist you are.
Besides that video resume helps to grab attention of recruiters even if your text CV is not that impressing. It happens often. One may be very talented, but would be rejected at this text CV screening stage having no experience. But if a person gets this 2 minutes pitch he can instantly change the other side's opinion.
@abram888 good question. If company or a person has bias he/she will anyway reject a candidate after an interview. It's not about a tool, it's about a mindset. With video cv you can see the person and not just judge on name or Uni. I have an accent and it's better for me to get rejected after the video cv rather than waste time on meetings. But the idea of the product is also to decrease the bias by showing the motivation of people and their skills, not only showing nice text in a CV.
@alphahunter@arik_akhverdyan Is this product a stand alone tool for candidates or is there a marketplace behind it to connect hiring person and candidate?
I recently discovered this tool and couldn't help but share here.
Given the current trend of video content, this tool should really prove helpful to applicants stand out from the rest. Not to mention, this is just a minute-long video application.
And since it's completely free, try it out. It's fun.
@alphahunter Thank you very much. I appreciate your attention a lot! The same thing was on our minds when we were starting this - that video content is everywhere now and will finally reach the job market. And the WFH mode has even catalyzed that.
Funny because when I applied to enroll in a business school 3 years ago, they used a similar system rather than face to face interview. It was really convenient as I was travelling a lot between Europe and africa. I am currently hunting for jobs, so I am delighted to have hunted this product to catch the attention of the recruiters. Finger crossed!
of course I will let you know if the vcv.me helps my future success. ?makers do you laready have data about the number of users who used vcv.me and actually landed a job bcs of it/thanks to it? Have user experienced problem with the email with the link being identified as spam? It would be super also to offer a feature so the candidate knows that the link was visited, by who, when and if the video was appreciated (option to click a thumb up for example and/or to leave a comment in writing or video)
Exciting product!
@cecile_rofidal Cécile, that's so cool - I totally love your comment and your questions! We have just launched the tool, I'd say we're in the process of adding some technical improvements to make the tool more user friendly. This hunt was very unexpected for us so we're working hard on the tasks in our backlog. And the product will get more useful features very soon. About the tracking of views - totally agree, it's super important for job applicants to get this kind of feedbacks.
We have our first users reporting that they are sending their VCVs to companies while applying and as we are continuously asking for a feedback I know several success stories where people landed a job.
I hope that vcv.me will help you to, in that case I'd be so happy to get a message from you (@vcvhr on Twitter) and feature your story and feedback! Thanks a lot and wishing you a great luck!
@vcvhr@alexlevit thanks for taking the time to respond.
I just tried vcv in pyjamas and with unprepared speech and a loosy CV to attach. Just to see how it works, to get prepared. First element that confused me was the end of the process. I had to go to my mail box to click the link and then access the final result. It would be great to have immediate access at the end of all recordings (I was on chrome when I did it)
So far, I have been unable to find how to replace my loosy CV with the right one, nor features to re record my videos.
Last element, I haven't understood how I could remove this "application" definitively. I have checked FAQs. it just mentionned that the link works as long as I want but nothing about deciding when I don't want it to be active anymore.
Thanks in advance for your help!
@cecile_rofidal Hi Cécile! Thank you very much for coming back with the comments. Definitely we're on our way to making some tech improvements as the tool is on the MVP stage and was hunted unexpectedly.
We're finishing this in a couple of week: you'll have a link to your video on the last screen. You will be also able to go back and rerecord answers. For now you can only rerecord your answer before you submitted it.
You can easily remove your video resume by clicking the corresponding link in the email with your link. Anyway until you share it no one will be able to see it.
Thank you for your feedback once again, it is very very helpful and we will improve everything!
@alexlevit I already saw some changes at the beginning of the week on the website. Congrats guys!
could you pls detail how I can delete a vcv by clixking on the corresonding link. I just did it and can t find the feature. I haven t share the vcv and have no intention to. However, I don t want to have some "data" about myself that I can't control "out there". Should I contact your technical team? If you look for beta tester. I am happy to help!
@cecile_rofidal Hi Cécile, thank you very much! You can either delete it by clicking the delete button in this letter or just texting us about that ask@vcv.me. Thanks for helping us to become better, I appreciate it so much!
Just checked it out, and because it's completely FREE, might try it later too. :)
However, how is this different (and better) from the current ones in the market? I mean, at least, the others have some degree of freedom on which template to choose from!
@jeff_raymundo this is a tool tailored for the job search. We wanted to make it short and informative. Much easier than uploading it to Youtube or send a video file. And we believe that's it's more convenient than video editors because you're focusing on the questions and the video pitch is divided into parts. You can start watching from the one desired
Super useful, we will definitely try with our HR. As I understood we can just use both of your products, send the link to interviewers to vcv.me and review with vcv.ai?
@ijazimran
* apply filters
* change questions and time for answer
* instantly get notified when someone views your vcv and
* check the number of views
In what ways does this product de-bias the interview process and ensure there's an equal, skill-based playing field for candidates (and doesn't penalize people who might be shy, more private or reserved, not confident in their appearance, etc)? I love the idea given the importance of video... but would love to know what's specifically being done to ensure all candidates are lifted up by the product equally.
@stevesaul82 Hi Steve, thanks a lot for your comment! We care about how job candidates feel when using the product. To make it more comfortable we have several features: they always have an opportunity to hide the VCV (if they have already sent it to the employer and are no longer willing to be watched on a video for instance), the also can skip questions, rerecord the answers (similar to making changes to a text CV), you can finally have more text than a video in your vcv - adding a big cover letter and your bio if you wish. To my mind the tool doesn't discriminate shy or reserved people as there's always an option to apply with a standard text CV and what is more - some times job applicants are applying with videos just making them with their smartphones just finding the way to stand out. The thing is that it's super inconvenient for both sides - sending and receiving and storing these files. But it definitely shows the demand!
@yonathan_yuri_faber Thank you very much Yonathan!
The good thing is that we can tailor questions for your hiring process, we do that for all product hunters and would be happy to help!
