Discover incredible music to use in your content for free, with automated clearance of copyright claims on YouTube. Uppbeat is the Spotify for creators!
👋 Hi all, Lewis here- co-founder of Uppbeat
For the last 6 months, myself and the team here at Music Vine (music licensing platform for filmmakers) have been busy cooking up a brand new platform- I'm stoked to share it with you today!
With more than 50 million people creating and sharing content across YouTube, Twitch, TikTok and other social media platforms, the creative community is booming, and more users are joining every minute.
However, content creators have faced a common problem: finding quality music and without the big headache of copyright issues. There's also been no easy way for musicians to get their tracks in front of this enormous audience and earn when their music is used... Enter Uppbeat 🥁
We've built Uppbeat from the ground-up for the creator community- here's the low-down:
💡 Model - A simple freemium model. Create a free account & download 10 tracks per month, access 50% of the catalog and get the occasional audio ad. Or upgrade to premium for unlimited downloads, the full catalog & the option to whitelist your channel for added convenience. Revenue is shared with all artists for both free & premium downloads.
📱 UX - We've designed Uppbeat's interface for two sides of the creative process: search & inspiration. So if you're looking for something super specific or keen to get new ideas on how music can be used creatively, the intuitive tile system is built to make it easy and fun!
⚙️ YouTube integration - Uppbeat integrates with YouTube's 'ContentID' fingerprinting system to detect & clear claims within minutes. Free users simply include an 'Uppbeat Credit' in their video & premium users have the option of getting whitelisted.
Welcoming your thoughts/feedback :-)
@lewis_foster1@vladojsem Thanks so much for the warm words Vladimír, our dev team have put in a stellar effort over the last few months. Hope you enjoy the music!
@sangeetha_sakthi Thank you! That's right, you can use the music in any social content except for paid advertising. There should be no copyright issues on social, but it's only something we can guarantee on YouTube. Hope that helps!
@sangeetha_sakthi@lewis_foster1 by paid advertising you mean only Youtube Ads or does it include any type of paid advertising like private sponsors, etc.?
Great product, btw. I have already bookmarked, upvoted, and tweeted it. 👏
@sangeetha_sakthi@rampatra Sponsored content or content with affiliate partnerships is absolutely fine & covered by Uppbeat's usage policy. It's just content that is specifically being published through a paid advertising system (e.g YouTube ads or social ads) where a separate commercial license would be needed. Having this restriction in place is what's enabled us to work with such fantastic musicians on this project.
And thank you for the warm feedback @sangeetha_sakthi & helping us spread the word 😃
@idris_mokhtarzada Uppbeat is geared solely to the creator market, but the catalog is also available over at our sister platform Music Vine, which offers licenses for paid advertising. Hope that helps!
Love the UI and the overall idea 👏
As a content creator myself, I might just end up using this. I'm especially interested in the launch of the SFX part of your platform - any hints as to when that might be ready? :)
@sunebthorsen Thank you Sune! - We're hoping to launch SFX within the next few months, but I still need to figure out best UI layout for that so the onus is with me right now 😅
@faizan_fahim This was absolutely a key feature of getting the product right. For all of the music we offer, Uppbeat integrates with YouTube to automatically release copyright claims within 10 minutes of them occurring.
@markkurcz A massive compliment, thanks Mark! No current API plans (our roadmap for new features will see out most of 2021 as it stands 😅). If you had something specific in mind, I'd certainly be keen to hear your thoughts though :-)
@lewis_foster1 Hey Lewis, appreciate your response🙏, Yes I have a specific use case in mind💡, I sum it up in a few lines and send it over to the support@ email address I found on the site ✌️
Damn this is nice! You had me on "NYC Vibe" playlist haha
Not being super familiar with YouTube, can you explain what does "whitelist your channel" means for Premium? Thanks!
@olegdreyman Thanks for the kind feedback & glad you're digging the playlists! You might already be familiar, but on YouTube copyright claims often happen when you use artists' music (these can cause issues like demonetisation & ads occurring on your videos) - with Uppbeat those claims are released within minutes of occurring. On the free side this is done by including a credit in each video description, then on the premium side you have the added convenience of being able to whitelist your channel so that claims are automatically released when you use our music.
This looks fantastic! Signed up and looking forward to using it. I checked the help section but couldn't find info on how a musician/artist/beatmaker can have their work submitted. Is there a different place to find that?
@selenavidya Thank you Selena! We'll be building an artist application portal on Uppbeat soon. In the meantime, if you (or someone you know) is interested in working with us as a musician, the best first step would be to submit an artist application via Music Vine: https://musicvine.com/artist-app...
An excellent database of free music, and most importantly, you can download it. Tell me, is it slippery in the track database now and how do you plan to expand it?
@romtos Thanks for the feedback Roman! We're exploring the idea of a communal upvoting system where interested artists submit their music and the user community itself votes on the artists they'd most like to see on Uppbeat. This would put content creators in control of how the catalog expands & meets their needs & removes the vetting burden from ourselves.
the app looks like want to take over works of musicians.
im very disappointed, Please let artists link their social media or websites on their profile. so they can get exposure, i also want to see their works outside the app.
dont be egocentric pls
@bob_sadino1 Honestly, links to artists social media/websites might be something we consider- it's just not been a priority for the MVP. However, we do need to consider carefully with something like this that musicians are ultimately working with us & putting their tracks on Uppbeat to earn money. Directing traffic away from Uppbeat or distracting focus from an artist's presence on Uppbeat does risk undermining that objective. For example, if having social links reduces user retention & were to ultimately reduce revenue by say 20%, this clearly would be something artists (and naturally ourselves) would likely prefer not to do.
@ovidiutepes Thanks so much Tepes 😊. The license doesn't cover games currently- but it raises an excellent point and I've made a note to look into it to see if we can expand the license to cover free games & apps.
