Selina, We Roam, and Remote Year are a few similar offerings. Curious to hear from someone that's tried one of these services. What do you think? Would you do it again?
Andrew Kamphey
@rrhoover I did The Remote Experience for two months, 2 years ago. The people were awesome, and it got me out of the house. Currently in Bali, on my own. and have been coming back here almost every other month the past two years. So a success.

@rrhoover @kampheyapproved I stayed at 7 Selina's in Central America when I was traveling solo. I loved the co-working spaces, the vibe of the hostels, and knowing i'd have consistent wifi to work from. Also stayed with a friend in Prague on Remote Year, it's quite costly and you travel with your cohort for a year in scheduled cities. So for me benefits of logistics & travel companions didn't outweigh the lack of flexibility to choose your next destination. I was happier to be solo traveling and joining co-working spaces for a month than being part of a travel program.

@rrhoover I stayed at Selina when I was in Costa Rica. What's great about them is that they are in desirable locations with backpacker-friendly prices. Food and activities are thoughtfully curated/made and wifi is great. They've really nailed the entire experience.

Would love to know an idea around pricing without submitting an application first, is this possible?
Carmen L. Sigman
Hi @liammckay you can find pricing on each retreat location page under "Cost" in The Basics box. For example, https://beunsettled.co/locations... shows pricing for 1 month or 2 week options.

If you're looking for a way to kickstart your routine or discover your next move, Unsettled provides a semi-guided opportunity to learn by immersing yourself in a new culture with people from all walks of life from around the world.

Pros:

Learn through new experiences, people, and cultures while operating under the guidance of enthusiastic and knowledgeable team leaders.

Cons:

While Unsettled provides a very work-friendly environment, you may find yourself disconnected from the group if you can't unplug frequently.

Spent 1 month in Capetown via Unsettled and loved it!

Pros:

Community, Destinations, Agenda

Cons:

None I can think of

These types of services seem to always be way too expensive. Anyone who has traveled, rented an apartment and joined a coworking space knows how much these things should cost. I guess it just comes down to how much the person values the cohort they're with.

This is by the far the most unique platform I have ever come across. I was really wanting to go last year but something came up and I couldn't 😞 . I just love the name unsettled and the concept of traveling, discussing ideas, networking and making friends with like-minded people for a lifetime.

I visited Cape Town in October 2018. It was an amazing experience in all aspects. They manage to attract really interesting people from different backgrounds, the house was great with amazing views, South Africa and Cape Town is such an exciting destination with so many activities you can do: mountains, beach, sailing, wines, food, wildlife, sports,... They have it all! I will come back to South America and I will join Unsettled in future for other destinations:) Unsettled team was great!

Pros:

Amazing group of people, great explike minded pliving & working & discovering new

Cons:

It's hard to concentrate on work

Unsettled changed my life! I went to Bali as a successful finance director freelancing for SMEs but looking for something more from life. 1 year on and I have my own African Travel business and I’m living a life I never dreamed I’d have. I’m still in touch with most people on a regular basis, have met up with some of them all over the world, and a group of us are having a reunion in Tanzania in Jan. I cannot speak highly enough of this experience and what this company delivers.

Pros:

Like-minded people, awesome destinations, the mental space to be inspired.

Cons:

I can’t think of any

I just completed two weeks in Marrakech. I'm 74 and was a little leery of the location and how the younger participants might relate to me. No need to worry at all! Everyone was wonderful, I felt totally comfortable in the medina and with all the locals I met as well as those sharing the experience with me. I'd recommend Unsettled for any one of any age who wants a new kind of travel experience. I can't say enough good about it, and I plan to do another one as soon as I can.

Pros:

The people, interesting locations, great accommodations, lots of options, adventure, relaxation, you design your time.

Cons:

Would love to see more locations.

I registered for their 1 month program in Medellin. I strongly recommend against this program in Medellin, due to lack of professional organisation. The accommodation is very poor quality, moldy bathroom, lack of hot water, dirty and dusty rooms and etc. In Medellin experience the concept of co living was not existing. People were in apartments far away from eachother which makes it difficult to meet up spontaneously. The workshops are organised by ourselves, and basically every event should be organised by ourselves. I paid 2500 USD for a terrible dirty airbnb, and organizing everything by myself. Not even the sim card was working properly I left the program after 4 days to save myself from their chaos, mainly because of the extremely incompetent experience leader. She was incompetent in very simple tasks like sharing the correct address of the dinner or wifi passwords beforehand.
