TrapFi is the only freelance network that guarantees work. There is no easy way to capture freelance work or receive work from other freelancers. TrapFi equips freelancers with guaranteed work and tools to make sharing and receiving contracts easy. Join freelance teams, complete projects and get paid without worrying about the business side.
Today, TrapFi is best designed for engineering and design freelancers. You can apply now with GitHub at TrapFi.com.
TrapFi has one ambitious tagline - "The only freelance network that guarantees work". I thought "yeah, sure". But than read this on your FAQ "We quantify how much work master freelancers in our network receive each year and approve freelancers based on estimated work flow". That is an interesting way to solve the problem. Good luck.
Thanks, @tylerswartz - We quantify how much work master freelancers and agencies in our network receive each month and approve freelancers based on estimated work flow.
"We quantify how much work master freelancers in our network receive each year and approve freelancers based on estimated work flow."
So freelancers sign up. And pay the monthly fee. There are other freelancers. Automatic team formation.
So where is the work coming from? Freelancers bring work? Am I also supposed to bring work? Who are the master freelancers? And how have you selected them to be masters? What criterias did you consider for being a master freelancer? What is freelancers approval? Are there monthly approvals depending upon the work?
Am I missing something very obvious here?
Hi @saifalfalah and @nadia_sotnikova, great questions - we started by building a private network of master freelancers and agencies. Anyone can share work on TrapFi but our private network is the main source of work supplied.
You can become a master freelancer or agency by invitation from someone in the network or you can earn access by consistently using our network entry program at MeetMitch.io.
@codedbycam "you can earn access by consistently using our network entry program at MeetMitch.io."
What do you mean by "consistently using"? I have joined the waitlist, is there anything else I can do?
Hi, @troy_do - 20% of our members received contracts on the first day. We will share more information on their experience soon. Our goal is to get this number to 100% over the next 3 months.
@dgeorgak06 So far, no work assigned, but I’ve received a monthly update email saying that I have 2 contracts pending. They say contracts may take up 3-6 weeks to officially close.
Edit: they also state average contract size on the email
@dgeorgak06@jalmeida Thanks, Joao, our guarantee of freelance work is annual - unfortunately, it is not instant or monthly. Over time, we hope to be able to guarantee a certain amount of contracts every month - today we guarantee a certain amount of contracts annually. Thanks again for being an early adopter here - feel free to email me at Cam@TrapFi.com anytime.
I will be as elaborate on my experience up till now, as I can be, as I am not really sure what is going on.
I registered without even adding my actual branch of expertise, as it was not present in the "Add Skills & Roles" dropdown menu.
I later received an email saying that I was accepted with the 2nd batch of freelancers, that contained a link for me to register. This link that is sent ONLY to the people that are accepted, is actually accessible by ANYONE! What I mean is that it's a link that I could send to all my friends and they could all go through the "accepted freelancer" registration process.
I am not going to post the link here, but in order to make it easier for everyone to understand, it was like receiving the link http://trapfi.com/registernow
There is nothing that links me to a specific account, or the fact that this was a membership by invitation, since the link is just an http link (not https) and there was no ID, no ref number, no key in the URL connecting the registration to me. The only thing was an easy way for me to pay the $25 membership fee.
All this looked a bit off for me, and then I realised, that I would be paying for a membership to a website that should create an account for me, but there is not even a "Login" button.
Can you please explain, as I am not really sure what this process is?
Hi, @rohandey@dgeorgak06! Absolutely - we manage all TrapFi profiles behind the scenes. Anyone can apply and register, however - only approved freelancers receive access to guaranteed work right now. For the approval process, we analyze GitHub, LinkedIn and essentially anything attached to your digital footprint.
Instead of giving users an account and public profile like other marketplaces, our goal is to deliver closed freelance contracts directly to our member's inboxes.
When you receive a contract, it has already been signed by the client and a 50% project deposit has been made. We have more features coming soon. However, we think the most important feature will always be the delivery of ready-to-go freelance contracts.
Thanks for the answer @codedbycam.
A few more questions that need to be clarified.
- I understand that the project is paid in milestones, but who agrees on the project's rate/payment? Since the 50% of the deposit has already been made, that means that the freelancers have no saying on how much they would charge for such a project. What are some sample rates of already completed projects?
- What happens if the freelancer does not agree (eg. not enough time, rate too low, not interested in the project, does not have the necessary skills, or any other reason) to take up a project offered to them? It could take months until a suited project reaches a freelancer, since they do not get to choose from a bucket, but they are offered available ones instead. Is there a moneyback guarantee to your services if after some time no project has been accepted, and what are the terms?
@dgeorgak06 Sure sure. Our members set their hourly rates, we use a formula to price out projects and match freelancers according to their skills and rate. We won't send a contract that is below their rate or outside of their skill set.
Freelancers are also approved based on estimated workflow in our network. Here's a link to our terms of use: http://www.trapfi.com/terms
I was intrigued and took the bait. 3 weeks later and not a peep so far. I've not heard of a single piece of work. Payment was only confirmed after I emailed their team as it wasn't clear if it went though as I received no confirmation. I'm optimistic, but slightly disappointed so far unfortunately as it seems a great idea...
@dgeorgak06 Will do. Just spotted the post below of your experiences. I think we're in the same boat. I signed up out of curiosity really as I already have an extensive network. So far, that curiosity hasn't been satisfied though!
@dgeorgak06@rikkipitt Thanks for the feedback here guys. I'm not showing an active membership for you. We closed the current batch of freelancers but will open another soon. Can you shoot me an email at Cam@TrapFi.com?
Do you have any intentions to expand the available roles beyond designers and developers? I'm a PM that routinely sees sites just like TrapFi that doesn't consider my role as an option.
@codedbycam@nigelgilbert@codelikeeric
Great Idea! As a remote developer and freelancer myself, I really appreciate it.
I have 2 questions
1. I tried applying, logged in with GitHub, filled the required fields in profile and submitted. I got the message that 'My profile will be reviewed for further processing'. I haven't provided any details about my work experience since those fields are not required. I thought I could edit them later. But once I submitted it's gone. I am wondering how the reviewing will be done.
2. I am building a product. If I like to make use of TrapFi, what will be the process? Currently, I don't see any form for accepting clients information.
EDIT: For #2, I found this comment -
"You can become a master freelancer or agency by invitation from someone in the network or you can earn access by consistently using our network entry program at MeetMitch.io."
Thank you, @ananthhh! I just pulled your profile and will send you an email shortly for 1 and 2. Sorry for any confusion, we are making improvements now. Thanks again for applying.
