So guys tell us the story behind this and why it was built :) What's the most common use case?
Ahmet Sülek
@bentossell Every month, Panda helps 130,000+ designers and developers catch up with the latest news and designs. Search was a demanded feature, but we didn’t want to restrict it to Panda users. So we decided to build it as a stand alone product. You can use The Search to track your projects and your competitors online presence from our fav websites. Personally, I’m using it to discover a new jquery lightbox plugin as well :)
Ben Tossell
@ahmetsulek nice! How about pulling in news articles from TC, Business Insider and the like? Also Angel List?
Ahmet Sülek
@bentossell This is our first attempt to develop a search engine and right now we’ve indexed more than 25 million entries and we don’t want to dive deeper before testing it with the current load. Great suggestion for sure, something that we can consider in v2.
Ben Tossell
@ahmetsulek haha trying to get you to run before you walk ;)
Yannimoto
@bentossell like the idea though! Haven't come across a good "startup" focused search engine. I especially like the inclusion of HN!
Kemal Apaydın
clean design&idea, congrats!

http://panda.network strikes again :)
Steph Garrett
I think that you can be compared to many search engines but the focus that this search engine provides is brilliant. By curating the options upfront you are helping me get to the type of content I desire faster. Looking forward to seeing it evolve and becoming an early adopter
Yannimoto
Like the simplicity and it's working super fast for me! Thumbs up 👍

@mertnesvat tesekkurler mert :)
Andrzej Stawarz
Thanks, good job. Maybe reddit add? (/programming /startups)
Ahmet Sülek
@astawarz Hey Andrzej! Yeah that can be added up to @bentossell's suggestions. Just replied to your question!

Really like this idea though I'm quite confident google advanced search is more powerful? is there not a way to use multiple domains with the "site:" operator?
Ahmet Sülek
hey @bsmartt13 ! Glad to hear you liked it, our popularity algorithm depends on comments and upvotes, so I think that's something google won't be considering soon :) we've only indexed given 4 sources, product hunt, hacker news, designer news and github, we'll be adding more sources when launching v2.
Steph Garrett
Exact multi phrase search on the way? @ahmetsulek
Ahmet Sülek
@ongarrett thanks for the suggestion, we're on it right now, will update you when it's live.

Nice job, I like the idea. I did a few quick searches with it, but wasn't coming up with known recent results. I think it should default to sort by "Newest First" since I was getting results that are 1 year old. Also, I wonder how your search algorithm ties into the different hot/trending algorithm of the sources? Is that the "popularity" sort?
Suk
Thanks @tweetfrog !, Our sorting algorithms includes relevancy based, popularity based, newest first and oldest first. On relevancy based, we look into the TF-IDF scores of the documents and show you the most relevant one according to that score. On popularity based, we also take into account the comment and like counts of the documents. Newest first and oldest first simply sorts according to timestamps of the documents. You can filter your search results with filtering section options like show me articles from last 7 days or last month. Best,
Roman
Any plans to include more sources like Reddit?
Ahmet Sülek
@romanzadyrako sure, which subreddits would you recommend?
Roberto Nickson
This is a great idea and will come in very handy - thanks for building it.
Blaine Hatab
This is remarkably useful. I have been using HN and PH to search a lot of things over google lately and this just packages it up perfectly.
Dariusz Kuśnierek
Any chance of adding "Past year" to the filters? ;-)
Ahmet Sülek
@dkodr if there is need we should do it!
Nick Sloggett
The best is when you post it to slack... http://d.pr/i/1a1Gl
Ahmet Sülek
@nicksloggett wow we made the website up yesterday, bad caching slack! this is what we get when we type though, http://d.pr/i/fjw
Ahmet Sülek
@nicksloggett I guess I cannot be more helpful with this one :)
Varun Malhotra
Really like the simplicity and the results are loading super fast. Would love to see more add-ons. How does Github search work? On what basis it's fetching results?
Ahmet Sülek
@s0ftvar if you search based on popularity we base on stars on GitHub. and we're totally open for recommendations..
saadshamim
I've been using it for the last couple of days, finding it really usefuil
