@bentossell Every month, Panda helps 130,000+ designers and developers catch up with the latest news and designs. Search was a demanded feature, but we didn’t want to restrict it to Panda users. So we decided to build it as a stand alone product. You can use The Search to track your projects and your competitors online presence from our fav websites. Personally, I’m using it to discover a new jquery lightbox plugin as well :)
@bentossell This is our first attempt to develop a search engine and right now we’ve indexed more than 25 million entries and we don’t want to dive deeper before testing it with the current load. Great suggestion for sure, something that we can consider in v2.
I think that you can be compared to many search engines but the focus that this search engine provides is brilliant. By curating the options upfront you are helping me get to the type of content I desire faster. Looking forward to seeing it evolve and becoming an early adopter
Really like this idea though I'm quite confident google advanced search is more powerful? is there not a way to use multiple domains with the "site:" operator?
hey @bsmartt13 ! Glad to hear you liked it, our popularity algorithm depends on comments and upvotes, so I think that's something google won't be considering soon :) we've only indexed given 4 sources, product hunt, hacker news, designer news and github, we'll be adding more sources when launching v2.
Nice job, I like the idea. I did a few quick searches with it, but wasn't coming up with known recent results. I think it should default to sort by "Newest First" since I was getting results that are 1 year old. Also, I wonder how your search algorithm ties into the different hot/trending algorithm of the sources? Is that the "popularity" sort?
Thanks @tweetfrog !,
Our sorting algorithms includes relevancy based, popularity based, newest first and oldest first.
On relevancy based, we look into the TF-IDF scores of the documents and show you the most relevant one according to that score.
On popularity based, we also take into account the comment and like counts of the documents.
Newest first and oldest first simply sorts according to timestamps of the documents.
You can filter your search results with filtering section options like show me articles from last 7 days or last month.
Best,
Really like the simplicity and the results are loading super fast.
Would love to see more add-ons.
How does Github search work? On what basis it's fetching results?
