Thx @erictwillis 👊 Stoked to be on Product Hunt!
We've created The Pitch because we believe it should exist. The world of venture capital is becoming more transparent (less scary) as a result of people like @paulg, and we'd like to help continue this trend with The Pitch.
The Pitch takes listeners behind the scenes to hear actual pitches from founders AND responses from investors. It's a collaborative effort that we hope will both entertain and educate. If you want to hear the story behind The Pitch, be sure to listen to episode 1 titled, Why The Pitch.
Honored to have @DaveMcClure@mahendra_gr@thefullratchet@jheltzer@ceonyc on our show as the first panel members. You guys are the best!
Ask me (or @pitdesi) anything you'd like about podcasting, VC, startups, or something random! I'm game.
[edit] TNW just wrote about us http://thenextweb.com/insider/20... & @BetaList wrote our story on Medium https://medium.com/@BetaList/thi...
@rrhoover GREAT question. I'd love to have @sacca and @mcuban, but lets take them out of consideration because of Shark Tank. I never would have thought of @snoopdogg, but he would be AMAZING! Other than @snoopdogg I'd say @pmarca and @peterthiel would be at the top of my list. I respect them as founders and investors and they always have something interesting to say. If anyone can make it happen please drop us a line - we're always looking for great guests!
@rrhoover All of the above that @pitdesi mentioned. But I'll raise you an @alexisohanian, @hnshah, @bfeld & @hunterwalk. 😜 The cool thing about being on The Pitch as a panel investor, is you can do the whole thing remotely, on your own time, AND you can record on your phone. We make the process super easy for investors because we KNOW how valuable their time is.
@rrhoover let's add Nasty @Nas to the list - I know he's invested in a lot of startups to date - many I'm sure weren't as successful as anticipated and thus he may have a really fantastic non-VC POV or insights to share. (And @joshmuccio - if you book Nas, please let me be a guest on that episode 😁💝)
The Pitch is a podcast where founders pitch to investors and get live feedback. It will remind you of Sharktank but with a podcast. @joshmuccio and @pitdesi are the co-founders and it's a really great production that I'm sure you'll love. After listening to the first podcast and listening to raw product feedback from @DaveMcClure, I was hooked. You'll also hear investors like @ceonyc (VC at Brooklyn Bridge Ventures) evaluate product pitches and you'll get a better understanding of why they would (or would not) want to invest in a company. It feels like you're sitting right there in the room for a startup pitch! I'm really interested to see where the team takes this. Awesome work!
@erictwillis Thanks for posting us Eric! You've been a huge help getting this project off the ground. Oh, and so has the legendary @bramk and my favorite British podcaster, @harrystebbings
I've been listening to Josh on TheDailyHunt.co for a few months now and have got a tonne out of the insights on that podcast. Having listened to the first couple of episodes of The Pitch it's clear Josh has upped his game again by partnering with Sheel and creating a new podcast that combines the raw interest of hearing from startups looking for investment and investors trying to find the next big win with a top notch level of production. Excited to hear where this goes.
@fredrivett "Josh has upped his game again" why thank you 😂 Yeah, and Sheel(@pitdesi) and I connected because of the Daily Hunt. Here's a pic of the cold email Sheel sent back in February.
It's interesting to note, The Pitch would have never been possible without the relationships formed as a result of the Daily Hunt.
As a podcasts junkie, this is defintely going to be added to my list. Do you envision that these are for educational/entertainment value or could some of these pitches yield into real funding?
@drjid We're first and foremost interested in helping startups raise funding (and helping angels find good startups). Of course, we'd love for people to find it educational/entertaining as well... and I think that they feed into each other. The more entertaining/educational it is, the more subscribers we have, some of whom will be angels, etc. The long-term vision is to help democratize seed-funding via the podcast. Our vision is that anyone could listen to the podcast, click a few buttons and make a small seed investment. There are some hurdles in the way, including regulatory ones, but that is all changing.
I was fortunate enough to listen early to the pitch. Immediately, I was hooked. It's great to see a well deserving podcast now hit Top 3 in its category on the Apple Podcast charts
Nice work Josh, this is awesome, I am really excited to see all the support for startups these days I feel like we are all turning a huge cornerstone in the industry. Keep it up dude!
@joshmuccio I really liked the first two episodes, I am based in Europe and I did some pitches during the last 2-3 years, it's funny how questions by American investors are completely different if compared to the ones we face in Europe every time. I was extremely interested in hearing that part and I found very useful as comparison. :)
Very excited to see where this podcast will go. Was lucky enough to listen to the podcast before launch and new both @joshmuccio and @pitdesi have and are creating something that I feel will have a huge impact on the Startup world. Listen to this... trust me :)
@thedavidjohnson I know you're a Shark Tank fanatic! So what would you like to see The Pitch become? Perhaps there are elements of Shark Tank that we can do better because we are audio only? We definitely see @LoriGreiner@mcuban@kevinolearytv@robertherjavec & @TheSharkDaymond's Shark Tank as the original innovator in this space and we subscribe to their vision of inspiring the next generation of founders to dream big!
@shashamir I think venture capital as a whole has become more and more transparent and therefore, less scary to would be founders. Hopefully The Pitch can further this trend and encourage even more people to become founders.
@bramk It is a bit more manageable! I respect people like @johnleedumas who crank out episodes EVERY SINGLE DAY. It takes incredible planning skills. And a short-form interview format. Unfortunately the Daily Hunt was near impossible to plan ahead for and I rather enjoyed some of the longer episodes the most.
One of the things I like about The Pitch the most, is the room for creativity on the storytelling side. I love being able to take a startup's pitch, and then help them tell THEIR story through my narrative. It's a TON of work for sure, but The Pitch is something I truly enjoy creating.
