Good morning Product Hunt! 👋 Thanks for hunting us @chrismessina 🙏 We noticed even though our generation, Gen Z, spends on average 3+ hr/day on social media, 50% of us tried to delete a social account this year. It is quite obvious that all of us hate Instagram, but it is impossible to convince hundreds or thousands of our friends to switch platforms! So, we built the OG app to help us all take back control over our Instagram feed and customize it just the way we like. We can't see or store your Instagram password, and we cannot take any actions on your behalf. 3. Enjoy the OG Instagram experience! @iamsebj Thanks for your comment, Seb! The absence of an external API does make this *much* harder to build, but we don't like to stop at anything to improve the user experience! P.S. the secret ingredient is reverse-engineering ;) I'll let @anshnanda add to this, he masterminded the tech!

How does this actually work though? Can you give us a bit more insight? Love the concept but I would like to know how you are able to have core functionality like DMs etc working when you have nothing to do with Meta?

Hey Ansh! Congrats on the launch, was surprised you're not #1 product today... Do most people like seeing this much ads and suggested content?! Or waste time on reels?! Excited to try out the app when it's available! Been using IG less and less over the years, lately it's been almost unusable for me, very annoying to use. Hoping there'll be more and more products coming out that value us - people rather than just designing them for content creators and pouring as many ads and suggestions as possible while keeping the rest of the users for as long as possible 🤷‍♂️

@maxslch Thank you Max! In my opinion, I don't think Facebook is designing for content creators, rather they are designing for maximum profit, which just happens to utilize content creators. There is so much value that is going to Facebook that should be going to the content creators instead. Our mission with this company is just generally to fix social media. @maxslch Thanks for your comment, Max! We do believe that influencers and their content is valuable - but the way Instagram prioritizes that content makes it encroach on posts from your IRL friends and family. We want to let users still consume this content, but we also want to give them the option to tune it out when they want! The choice should rest with the user, not the platform :)
