Textify - macOS app to recognize text from your images/docs with OCR

Textify recognizes text on any images or PDFs. It produces a PDF with the text integrated above the image, such that it looks like a pure text PDF. You can search the PDF or copy/past in it. Everything happens on device, instant file size preview + filters.

Wow, it works! @yellow8 Can you please please add basic keyboard shortcuts to the UI? e.g. cmd+o -> open image cmd+enter -> Recognize cmd+s -> Save as
yellow8
@straaajk Good idea, I just added it to my roadmap! Thanks
yellow8
@straaajk Shortcuts are now integrated :-)

@yellow8 amazing :) I've noticed right away in 1.3 update 🙏

Which languages are supported? ?makers
yellow8
@creativehitarth Hi, basically all languages. But English gets an extra accuracy boost by using a dictionary. More languages will be added overtime, it is on my roadmap!

We want for Windows :3 <3

@ugur2nd Haha, I'd love too, but unfortunately as an indie dev, I have to choose my battles. It's not something I'm going to do, sorry. But I hope you find something out there!

Nice little utility! I just have a little issue: I can't save the PDF with text integrated. I only have the little wheel, but it's stuck. Maybe it's because I'm on macOS Big Sur beta...
yellow8
@arthur_guiot Hey, thanks for trying it! This is very likely due to Big Sur. Textify has been developed for Catalina. I did not start the Big Sur compatibility since its not yet available. I'll have a look very soon when Big Sur is a bit more further on the beta path :-).

@arthur_guiot With the release of macOS Big Sur, I have finally been able to reproduce this issue. The latest app update fixes it, good news! :-)

Textify version 1.2 is out (time flies!)! You can now directly paste images/PDFs in the app. I also added keyboard shortcuts for more efficiency while using the app. Pssst: The -70% discount on the PRO version is still available 😜

@yellow8 Thank youuu! 👏

I'm super glad to introduce Textify. 🚀 Textify is a macOS app to recognize text on any image/PDF, and to export to PDF with the text integrated! Text recognition (OCR) has never been so easy and so accurate. Key featuresSave result as a PDF with the text integrated above the image such that it looks like a pure text PDF. The PDF is searchable and you can copy/paste in it • Save as .txt • Select multiple images at once or just Drag & Drop • Apply filters on the images (colors, grayscale, b&w) • Adjust size and quality for smaller output file size • Instant output file size preview • Accuracy boost for English language by using a dictionary (more languages to come) • Everything happens on device, 100% locally, no server. Your data is safe and your privacy matters • Developed exclusively for macOS and compatible with dark mode What do I get by downloading the app? The app is entirely free. You can definitely stick with the free version and export for free as .txt or with a watermark on the PDF. The watermark is not added if you purchase the PRO version as a one-time in-app purchase. This will support my work as an indie developer and also bring you future free updates. My family and I thank you so much for your support. The PRO version is currently at -70% for app launch 🚀, which makes it cheaper than 2 beers. And I'd love a beer 🍻. If you are looking on how to purchase the PRO version, check the app preferences. A bit of history I am an indie developer and I previously created PDFZone and Zacc on macOS, as well as QuickScan: Image to Text PDF on iOS. Both macOS apps heavily use PDFs and read their contents. An OCR software was thus a logical new development. There is something going on with me and PDF, but I can't really tell. You guys have an idea? 😅 Anyway, I sincerely hope you enjoy the app. Feedback and reviews are welcome and very appreciated. I'd love to update the app with your suggestions. 👋🏻

It's now in v3 with tons of new features: • Edit OCR results before PDF integration • Continuity support for importing directly from your iPhone/iPad's camera • Define OCR zones to help with complex layouts like columns • Improved OCR with 8 languages supported • Deep macOS integration (D&D, Copy/Paste, Keyboard shortcuts, Open with, Continuity, ...) • Many, many improvements all around the app I put a lot of work into it :-). Can't wait for you to try this new big release!
yellow8
What would you like to see first in the next update? Please detail!
Nate Whistler
@yellow8 The ability to use it from command line.
yellow8
@iam_active Good idea. Need batch OCR?
Nate Whistler
@yellow8 That would be cool, It would be nice to set something up with Hazel were I put an image in a folder and it automatically converts it.

Hello, considering buying this. But why is this any better than any other scan app?
yellow8
@danirogerc Hi! Thank you! It is better because: First, because iIt is very accurate. Second, because the recognized text can be integrated into the final PDF which makes it searchable. Third, because its dead simple and quick, which makes it an easy process. Fourth, because it's cheap. Fifth, because I'm a good guy 😊. Thanks!!
yellow8
Hey guys ! Textify is now in v2 and supports up to 8 languages for the OCR. Is is also compatible with Apple Silicons macs, and macOS Big Sur. And it has a new icon matching the new macOS interface. Can't wait for you to try it!

Very simple and easy to use

Application très intéressante, merci pour le partage

It looks very easy to use and I appreciate the free option. Comparing between this and other OCR options, can you tell us which OCR engine you are using in the back end? I have been looking at ABBYY to OCR textbooks but the cost is quite high for that option.
yellow8
@tombielecki It's a trained coreML model. I have ABBY with my Fujitsu scanner, and while it is very good, Textify is also very good (probably a bit less that ABBYY, but not that far) and for much less money.

This looks really great, I'm interested.

@juanvaldez2 Thank you! I hope you like it :-). Please let me know!
