Love how they're tapping into the psychology of impulse purchases and putting it to work with impulse investing. If they integrated with Pinterest, my remodel-the-house budget would be in much better shape.
Spencer Wise
@lauraschultink completely agree with this. Flipping impulse purchasing on its head.
Douglas Magnolia
@lauraschultink Glad you like it. We're not on Pinterest as of yet, but it's in the queue...and mine would be in better shape as well!
Nadia Eghbal
@lauraschultink well said.
Becca Edwards
@lauraschultink Agreed. Looking forward to getting access to try it out. I wonder how or if they'll look to gamify it. A lot of people will put another few bucks into savings if it got them points or a new badge right now.

Hashtag investing is a really neat idea! I noticed Sumday was created by BNY Mellon. Now, can we invest in Bitcoin with it?
Douglas Magnolia
@spencernoon Hey thanks! We’re not integrated with cryptocurrencies yet, but maybe #sumday. Stay tuned…

I can't believe this was built by a bank. Very cool idea, but simple has a very similar feature called "goals" that will automatically deduct the exact amount needed day by day depending on how much money you want to save by what date. It's legit.
Douglas Magnolia
@torbahax Thank you, we've surprised a lot of our own folks as well. This is early days for us with a lot of interesting things to come. Stay tuned.

What a gorgeous website. Oh, and I really like the idea too.

@NikkiElizDemere Thank you Nichole! Our designer is blushing...request an invite code and hopefully you'll be as pleased with the service too! #sumday

Quite clever. Is it only available in the US?
Douglas Magnolia
@jamesepember Thanks James. Right now we’re only up and running in the States, but other markets are clearly in our future.

Personally, the "or when you’re feeling inspired with a hashtag" part made me roll my eyes and discount the credibility of the service. I'm clearly not the target demo :)

Looks kind of similar to Acorns? https://www.acorns.com/ Basically casual investments but instead of hashtags they do credit card round-ups

Beautiful site and the video has me craving for dessert. I personally use Betterment and I am wondering if there is any benefit to using Sumday instead. My Betterment behavior mimics Sumday in that I do monthly deposits + random deposits when I am saving for something specific minus the social aspect with hashtags.

@harlotsghost When can we expect the sumday launch?
Douglas Magnolia
@spencerrwise We are only in Beta, but you can register for an invite code. Looking for more widespread availability in the Fall.

It will be interesting to see if this catches on at some of the other banks. I bet it will. There is a real chasm in Wealth Management between High Net Worth and Emerging Affluent individuals. Shops are finding out what works for HNW doesn't usually work for EA. This product creates a socially relevant alternative to traditional Wealth Management for the EA/millenials demo.
Douglas Magnolia
@spencernoon Thanks Spencer. You are spot on. Follow us as we roll out new features and functionality that drive at the heart of that gap.

I echo a lot of what was said: great design; can't believe a bank did this. Do you use @dwolla for payment transfers? If not, have you thought of using it? Might align well since BNY Mellon is trying to show they can adapt to the digital age.
Douglas Magnolia
@McCroden Thanks Stuart! Hard to believe, I know. We know the guys at @dwolla and like what they are doing, and are certainly thinking about that functionality for later iterations.

@davidkmckinney When will the app be released? ;)
