When we were planning our family holiday last year, it wasn't easy for us as cycling fans to find a good place to watch as many stages of the Tour de France as possible. Simply finding a map with routes, dates and start times was very time-consuming. In addition, none of the apps showed the current location so that you could actually find the place you had chosen. So I quickly wrote an app for it and it was worth the effort: we had a lot of fun and a good view of the advertising caravan and of course the riders. Back at home, I added some statistical data to the stages so that I now really enjoy using the app to look at the profile and the course of the route in addition to the live broadcast. I hope one or two cycling fans will also find this useful.

As a cycling fan, this sounds awesome! How accurate are the current locations and updates for the stages? Any plans to integrate social features for fans to connect and share their experiences?
Rico Becker
@kyrylosilin Thank you very much! The data is as accurate as it can get it. An average 200km stage consists of about 4000 individual locations. I tested it during last year's Tour de France and it worked brilliantly. Updates are currently managed via app updates, but I already have a backend for this and am working on releasing these updates as soon as they are available.

Grand Tour viewing experience with maps, optimal viewing spots, and elevation profiles. Look around feature and map app integration make planning easy; Stage Hunter has detailed stage information for armchair commentators. A freemium model with the first three stages free and a season pass for monetization. To increase engagement, have you considered adding social features, travel booking, and weather forecasts?

@rosekamallove My next features on the roadmap are indeed location sharing with useful navigation hints and weather data. I really want to try Apple's WeatherKit and this seems like the perfect opportunity.

@ricobeck That’s great to hear!

This product is very convenient. The question is, does it rely on the strength of the mobile device's network signal?
Rico Becker
@hugec Thank you very much! The stage data is stored in the app and is always available. Completely independent of a network connection. Before you set off, you can make the maps available offline in the Maps.app and are therefore completely independent of the Internet.

This is one of the coolest creations I have seen in a while. I do have a few questions though. Is there a feature that shows an approximate time frame of when riders will come past the viewing point you have selected/are at? Also, does this app support mountain biking events? I would love to use it for a few in the future. And finally, how are the best viewing spots determined? Is it AI?
