This is presented well. I'm curious which types of users or use cases gravitate toward this today. There's a growing number of people that value privacy and security, but many are already set on using Google Docs, Quip, Notion, etc.
@rrhoover This is a great question. Today, even as Signal, WhatsApp, iMessage, Android messenger, Zoom, and other products build in end-to-end encryption and other privacy features (like expiring messages), few to no privacy-first options exist for the 1 billion people using collaboration platforms on the web. We've seen a few key use cases for Skiff:
1. People who love privacy (like our team) and use Signal, ProtonMail, and other privacy-first products want a collaboration product for notes, working together, and personal work (like tracking finances)
2. People whose jobs require high levels of privacy (doctors, researchers, writers, journalists)
3. Companies that operate around the world (Europe, Asia, LATAM, and North America) needing a secure place to work together.
Skiff has paying customers today in all of these categories - and is on the path to building a privacy-first user experience that rivals any great collaboration product out there :)
Thanks @Chris Messina for hunting! Hey Product Hunt π
Andrew here, co-founder at [Skiff.org](http://skiff.org/). Weβre so excited to launch Skiff to the PH community :)
What is Skiff?
Skiff is a privacy-first workspace built from the ground up with end-to-end encryption, expiring links, watermarks, locked documents, and more.
Why now?
We're here to eliminate the tradeoffs between privacy and usability. Using new technology for decentralization and security, we've built end-to-end encryption and usable privacy features directly into Skiff's workspace.
Privacy is a fundamental bedrock for the platforms we use today. To fulfill this mission, Skiff is advised by security leaders, including Alex Stamos, Erinmichelle Perri (CISO of The New York Times), Ehren Kret (CTO of the Signal Foundation), and more.

Congratulations on the launch! Skiff is a beautifully designed product and it's exciting to see such a strong consumer brand around privacy.
What other features are on the roadmap outside of encrypted collaboration?
@gaby_goldberg
Thanks Gaby! β¨β¨Weβve got a lot on our roadmap for this year.
Weβre adding a ton of cool new features to our security toolbar that make secure collaboration not only intuitive but even fun. Some highlights include invisible watermarks, vault mode, and self-destructing documents.
There's also a lot in the works for this summer like powerful new search features, templates, and super-charged tables for organizing data.
Having a gorgeously designed and privacy first document collaboration application is so important! It's the natural segmentation of the market into those willing to give their data to google (willingly or not) and those who value protecting their information and ideas. The product is excellently executed and I can't wait for a world in which one can use an entire privacy first ecosystem of online productivity tools. Truly in the spirit of fighting back against the modern day private governments of cyberspace (https://www.eff.org/cyberspace-i...). Great job guys :)
Well designed and highly functional. The importance of privacy in the modern age cannot be overstated - we are lucky to have Skiff and its talented staff leading the way!
Amazing product! How easy it is to migrate my existing documents to Skiff and when will you launch a mobile version so I no longer have to use shared Apple notes?
@jennywang01 We're working on it! Right now, .docx and .pdf import work from mobile/desktop, but we're adding new types very soon, including .odt, .txt, and from notes applications :)
The product looks amazing & the demo is slick. An extra proof of your attention to design detail is the effort that's gone into your blog, making it attractive to read. It's inspirational and reassuring to see a PH launch where the solid technical background is real, in a world of concierged landing pages and vapourish claims.
I had a horrible sinking feeling that this was going to be another "it's all on the blockchain" startup when I saw "new technology for decentralization and security".
I was very relieved to see the CRDT approach cleanly explained with links to some of my favourite papers.
This is Google Docs on steroids - better functionality, more intuitive design, and of course, e2ee encrypted. I like when products are both technically grounded *and* provide a better user experience. Great job, team!
ayo congrats on the launch, andrew! this is going to be huge in government, healthcare, and finance. btw i love the product videoβhow did you do the cool zooming and flipping effects.
